Seaton Sluice/St Marys/Whitley

Going out this evening and instead of fishing the middle toilets beach at Seaton Sluice I thought I might try the beach right next to the harbour, casting across it near to the rock beds on the seaward side, or perhaps go to the south side of the harbour and try Colywell Bay.

Either that or St Marys lighthouse, just to the left of the causeway about two thirds of the way across it, or Whitley.

Any thoughts/recommendations or (polite) suggestions appreciated

Final tally was two whiting (one was about the size of my sinker )and one fat flattie about a foot long, all safely returned.

King Edward's Bay at Tynemouth is winking at me for later tonight. Should get there around 9-30 for a few hours

Fished King Edward's Bay at Tynemouth last night.

Started casting at around 8.30 and finished up at 11.

Missed quite a few bites but landed 4 Whiting, biggest maybe pushing a pound and a half, and 3 flatties.

I had to kill one of each because they were too deep hooked to release but the others were all safely returned.

Lovely night to be out - seas were calm, the moon was so bright I didn't need a lamp most of the time and it beats the heck out of sitting in pointing at the TV...

Didn't take pictures of all the fish - I was concentrating on getting them back into the water ASAP, and juggling a phone for taking snaps as well as the rod and fish is a lot less fun than baiting up and casting back out, so...

All were caught on rag fished on a running ledger at distance. I was at the south end of the little bay and cast one line more or less straight out and the other towards the middle of the bay. The one going to the middle of the bay picked up most bites/fish.

Might pop back again this evening - it would be a shame to let this bait go to waste...

I went to Blyth pier last night.

A bit quiet - 2 codling, biggest about a foot long, and one small flattie, all caught on rag/Mackerel strip cocktail.

Loads of bites from small stuff and one clonking bite that I missed

A seal kept me entertained with its antics for quite a while, not even 20 yards away from the pier. It seemed very interested in what I was up to - probably wondering why I need so much gear to catch fewer fish than he could with none...

I finished the evening in an unexpected fashion:

I'm 6' 4" with shovel hands, and this is the biggest hermit crab I've ever seen in UK waters. That's a 4/0 hook it's holding onto !

On the way back off the pier I spotted a fox working its way along the beach, so I dropped the remaining Mackerel strips I had left onto the sand and waited. Within a few moments the fox scented the bait and wandered up to eat it while I watched - when it had finished I clicked my tongue a couple of times and it shot off like a scalded cat

the hermits r like that all along the pire m8, know lads that used 2 dive 4 them 4 bait.
