Hi,

Just wondering who people are using to get there outboards serviced or repaired when needed?

Just trying to build up a nice contact list for when things start going wrong

PA Lynch at morpeth are good, never had a bad service/problem from them, and they will come to you as well

storrars on the coast road do service as well, never used them though

there's an outfit at derwenthaugh up the tyne near blaydon, but personally, I wouldn't trust them to service a plant pot let alone an engine

Dont agree Mark i get my plant pots seviced there every year :D. Depends if you want to keep a service history record JP. If its an old engine there are quite a few handy lads who know thier way round an outboard for a fraction of the price of main dealers, but no reciepts. If its a newer engine get a main dealer to do it and keep the reciept, good for for when you sell the boat on....

its a funny old life,my feelings about the outfit at morpeth are the same as yours about the outfit on the tyne!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You've got me worried now, my engine is booked in for a service there next week , I've taken it back to CTC in Middlesbrough the last 2 services , but it's a hike and Morpeth is just down the road ....... tell me they aren't that bad

last 3 big engines I've had, yamaha 40 2 stroke, marine 50 4 stroke, and a johnson 40 2 stroke were all a nightmare, poor starters, poor runners, cutting out etc

came back from PA lynch like new engines

took a small 8hp yam to the place up the tyne, needed a recoil spring and a service.

after 8 weeks being there I was eventually told it was beyond repair, as they couldn't get a recoil spring but they still wanted over £200 for the service, but would never explain to me how they managed to service an engine that couldn't be started due to a broken recoil spring, let alone justifying £200 to service an 8hp 2 stroke engine

the mariner 50 needed a full service, electric choke solenoid replaced and the choke system rebuilt

bill was £120

Hi Jpster,
I know the guy personally who does the engine servicing/repairs for Storrars, time served marine engineer. Hes maintained both my last two Volvo legs(still) and all his work is spot on everytime, thats his day job as well not some dilutie.

Good Luck,

Dave

dont go to trident .... for your honda service .....

not impressed at all

didn't know they were still going, thought they'd have bit the dust years ago. you seen the prices they charge in there - makes storrars look like poundstretcher pricewise!
