Been trying to find some decent booms for shad fishing a while now but still can't find a good quality boom that is strong and works a treat was wondering what you lads are using and if poss a place to source them cheers dean

I was making my own out of stainless tig welding rods, bend them to the shape and length you need, strong as hell they are :). I think they are call Filler Rods.

Don't suppose you have a pic of the ones you made Chris just I have tried to make them before but keep messing up and end up tangled etc cheers mate

Lol dunc them bell weights are for the likes of Arnold swatznigger I was thinking of using a zip slider instead of boom but them booms look better

Tie a swivel to one end of 3ft of 30lb amnesia and a shad to the other end , tie a link swivel to the end of your mainline and clip your lead and your shad swivel ont o that, no need for a boom , they are a waste of time, money and effort. :)

Have a look on EBAY, type in "flying collar booms", i didnt bother with the sliding collars, just twist the wire into a loop mate. You working down the marina mate ?

Cheers mate I will have a look not anymore mate I got upgraded and now drive a crane on the docks instead beats doing the heavy lifting etc

How's things with yourself mate hope you are all keeping well you not missing the boating I know I am and after I get hitched in 4 weeks I'm gonna be looking for a vessel the missus don't know yet lol

I bought some cracking ones on eBay they 15 inches long and solid built think the seller was called Davys tackle

BOOMS WHY,waste of time 2 american swivels thats all you need its fool proof ,and tangle free, its how you wiggle your shad that gets the fish , flick your shad away from boat if you can, then as the tide brings your shad back towards the boat, hop your shad if no fish on, wind up and try again game on :D:D

It's definitely how you wiggle your shad!:o:o:o

I have been thinking of using booms for bait fishing off a boat, not for shads though.

Any thoughts on booms for baits?

when i first started, i used to use booms ,not anymore they cause more problems than enough ,when you use a snap which you attach your weight to ,you have a nice swivel just above it ,tie muy 4ft trace to that and a nice shad on the end ,(fav colour blue)and let it go save money and time .and its works tried and tested

hi lads,an old an gnarled skipper from st abbs gave me a lesson a couple of weeks ago how to fish jelly worms and shads,he used cotton bud tubes from boots off a loop running onto a bead just before the snap swivel, then the normal five to seven foot trace with a swivel in the middle,on a rubbing leader,i had a few coalies on this method, but sadly the pollack werent showing off stabbs head,it seemed to make a diiference to the action and certainly didnt tangle.the amazing thing i discovered or it might be just the cod being lazy was the same rig but fished with a massive spoon baited with cooked prawns on an american snap static so it bounced in the tide had the majority of our cod,it was also the same with prawn baited hokkaii, when i had three cod when i was having a cigarette or a cup of coffee and the rod was idol but nothing on jigged hokkais or muppets, the best two cod of the two day charter were taken by my girlfeind julie on her first ever boat trips one of 7and a bit and one of 8 and a bit, both on legered cooked prawn and peeler baits, she said my lures looked like jewellery or earrings and she was thinking like a fish(she would rather have a prawn and crab salad sandwich to eat than an earring)enough said
