Shady 17-7-10 - The Return!

Well it's fantastic to be able to post a Shady report again, I would of been over the moon sitting here posting our report even if we'd caught very little but as it happens what unfolded is a morning I'll never forget.

I picked Bert up at 5.0am and we headed to Kyle's but there was no answer on either the front door or his phone so it was just the two of us.

First stop was the usual inshore wrecks which produced a couple of mackeral but little else so next stop a couple of 3 mile wrecks. The drift was pretty swift but Bert was soon into cod on the pirk while I only managed an under size ling on a flowing trace. It was 4 good cod for no reply to the skipper until he gave me some advice to fling my pirk uptide and I managed to catch a few to save the blushes.

Things went dead so we headed off to another wreck which I believe we rarely fish - I'm pretty sure we'll be fishing it again soon :D

I don't think Bert had left the wheel house and I was pulling in a string of fish, a coalie on each of my 3 daylites and 2 on my pirk one of them about 2lb. It soon became obvious that if you could get through the coalies there was some prime cod to be had underneath. Bert worked his magic and managed to start positioning us to avoid the coalies and hit the cod straight away, then the dream fishing began, we pulled in at least 2 cod each almost every drift for the next 3 hours. They were coming up in twos & threes, all about the same stamp 3-5lb, the best fishing I've ever experienced. We were soon joined by Norm & Tony on Slinky who delivered us a very well received beer - Cheers lads :), and then a few lads we know on Wave Dancer, both crews wasted no time joining in the fun.

By about 1.30pm we could take more and headed for home, not sure exactly what the final score was, I'm guessing 55 - 50 to Bert (just cos he had my lucky 25lber hat on) :D

I've had some memorable trips on board Shady but this one will take some beating - Cheers Bert!!! You haven't lost your touch. ;)

Can't wait for the Slinky report with video & photos - No pressure Norm ;)
