We had a comp scheduled for today so Bert, Kyle & myself headed out for a few hours scouting yesterday. I had to be away early so we had a early start (well early for November) and were out the piers for about 6.45am. With the big tide flooding out and the wind blowing in the opposite direction we had great fun getting over the bar
but once at sea it wasn't too bad, we headed straight to a wreck that had been fishing very well on previous trips (seems like weeks ago) and as soon as we stopped the sounder was just full. The three of us all opted for pirks & daylites and you couldn't get to the bottom for coalies, mackeral & whitings, but if you did there was the odd codling to be had and a quick change to shads picked out one two better fish, great fun!! So we'd scouted out THE wreck for the comp and headed in after about 3 hours with 15 codlings and some nice whitings and coalies, not forgetting a good haul of mackeral for comp bait.
Unfortunately the comp today was cancelled after a late call, a few boats headed out anyway but most turned back at the groin. We braved the bar again which was even worse than yesterday this time joined by Skull. We obviously headed straight to the hot spot and it was still alive with fish. We plugged away for a few hours again then tried a couple of drifts for ling on another wreck where Skull landed a couple of ling. So we ended up with 40 codlings, 2 ling, coalies, whitings, mackeral and a nice 6lb pollack caught by Kyle.
Even though I felt rough both days (I'll learn drinking the night before doesn't work) I've had a great weekend's fishing - Cheers Bert!
