Arrived about 1.15pm, bright Sun & little Wind so expectations were low. Only about a dozen Anglers spread about & struggling apart from one guy who had 5 early on & just 1 in the last few hours.
Got fishing on the Doxy about 2pm & first cast using Buzzers, straight into my 1st Rainbow. Missed another 2 fairly soon after then netted a lovely Brownie. Only about 2lb but lovely looking fish.:D

Had another 2 before 4pm then it all switched off, so went for Tea at 5.30 happy enough.:)
Out again about 6.15pm & tried the Albert & Hangmans Lakes without success. Very few rises & would look at nothing.
Ended up back at the Doxy about 7.30pm & eventually got the favourite Lure out.;)
Still slow but managed another 2 from different Pegs, then about 8.45pm as the Sun dipped, someone flicked a switch & the buggers were rising all over. Unfortunately most of the water was Mirror calm & by now i couldnt be arsed to wander about finding the bit ripple that was still there.

Put on a black F Fly & cast to a rise nearby which was snatched at & missed. Cast to another rise & must have landed on its nose as it gobbed it down & came nicely to the Net.:) My 7th of what had been a very hard day.

Packed in about 9pm. Records in the book showed the guy i spoke to on arrival had 7, another guy had 3 & the rest were 1s & 2s. A very hard day with most Anglers staying away because of the conditions.

Pic of my 2nd Rainbow.

Hello Bob,
You've done canny there and well done with the Brownie,I had a look down to Sharpley last night late on. I managed three as the sun started to go, all on a daddy, after some great advice from Terry Woods.
I managed to snap my rod too, my fault entirely as I need to spent more time on practising my casting. The fly clipped the tip of my rod during the cast.

Regards Ian

It was me that spoke as i was passing you on the Doxy Ian, you mentioned your Rod & i said to contact Greys for a replacement.

Well done Bob hard work in the bright sunlight. I was up the Derwent yesterday with my dog. It was about 7pm and there was loads of fish rising. Also loads of black flies annoying the sh--e out of me as they buzzed around my head.

Mick.

Hello Bob, I wish I had known it was you......sorry. Thanks for the advice though, I phoned Hardys and they have a new tip section for me so I'm pleased with that.
I'll recognise you next time mate, I liked sharply so I'll be back down as it's only a 10 mile drive for me........gonna get one of tagged fish one day :) I'll have to if I keep snapping rods!!!

Regards Ian

Hardy/ Greys

Hardy/ Greys

Hi Steve, its fully normal for Hardy/Greys to charge extortionate amounts for snapped rods. I believe it used to be £50 per section, but now I think its based on a % of the price of the rod.

Either way, its far too much! Hardy especially used to have a reputation of designing and building decent gear, but since everything got sent off to be made in Korea/ China, its all gone t*ts up. They are still charging 'English built' prices, for cheap, imported rubbish. Its exactly the same with the sea fishing gear too.

They lure you in with the promise of a 'lifetime guarantee' if (more like when), your rod snaps. Then they preceed to charge silly amounts to replace it. Greys are exactly the same. I wouldn't thank you for any of it!

It is a shame this is now the case, given the past reputation of the place. My advice: keep away from the stuff and buy something that isnt going to let you down, or stick with a company that is going to offer you some sort of proper customer service!

Hello Steve, yes mate I think that's what they want. Richard has a fair point but I'm just pleased that I'm getting a new section and I don't have to throw away the rod.

Mine is an older Hardy, made in the uk I think, one of the three piece ones and as it's discontinued I didn't think that I'd get a new section. It was my fault that it snapped too, I must concentrate more on my casting.

Bob, I'll look out for you at Sharpley in the future mate.

Regards Ian

I had 2 Greys Fly Rods snapped, & you know what, both my fault.:D
Yes they charged me £40 per section posted & a fair price to save my Rods imo. Couldnt fault their Customer service at all. Very helpful.
