shellfish baits

when you stew mussel and clam for bait whats the best way to do it.
fresh has always fished better for me but my scottish friend swears by it,maybe i havent let it stew for long enough.

Took my Razors out for tomorrow on Tues - left them in the Shed and they are pretty stinking - Gogs swears by this method - i think it only works properly after there has been huge seas on and all shell fish are smashed up by the pounding waves - i am sure someone else will post on this

same here i tend to shell a load then put them in batches for taking fishing ,a day or 2 before i go i take them out the freezer then by the time i use em you can smell them from miles away ,they work a treat and if i don\'t use them all they go back to the freezer .they work great with blacks .i also do this with razor and limpits
both are much underated

Whats the best way to get mussel out of its shell? I usually loose my patience and hit them with a hammer.

Whisper sweet nothing in their ears, that ususaly makes them smile and open up.

If that don\'t work you can try pouring boiling water over them to scald them open, then pour the water off straight away or you\'ll end up cooking them.

a butter knife in the hinge then twist clockwise is my method then slide the tip of the knife around the inside of the shell cutting the white tendons
