sless i've never fished anything like this why is it they don't meet first like you guys at cleadon club before going to your chosen fishing spot it would save a lot of arguments.meet at crown 7am 10mins later off to your spot then start fishing at 8.aye daint na loads of argueing ower n
owt ,,,,funny thing these rules.
Interesting one this....I never fished the comp but still would like to voice a slight opinion if I may.
If the lad accessed the pier when the gate was open say the day before...and was not informed that he had to get off as it was closing, and then fished all night and stopped and waited for the comp to start at the official time. Then i see no reason for the disqualification.
However if there is or was a dispute about the fish landed during the comp not matching up to what was witnessed, then you would have no other alternative to deem it an illegal move.
Were the fish caught during official match times? were the fish witnessed? Did the lad go onto the pier whilst it was officially open ? If any of the answers are no then it is the right result.
Unfortunately
lets hope the sunderland council comp coming up they will open roker pier for anglers taking part too even if the work hasnt been completedthe harbour master agreed to open the pier just for the anglers that took part in the shields open today and not the general public
. It also states in our rules that any one crossing any barrier where there is no public access their catch will be disqualified and this was the case today. I will reply to comments made about my statement .''
is this accurate?
'any area closed to the general public is strictly out of bounds' is what the booklet says.
no mention of public accessibilty in the rules i was given mr walker, the rule which you are basing your argument on. your scenario re safety fence is weak, and i dont think is best timed as secretary. you should have consulted with your colleagues before making a statement. your emotional message does not portray professionalism

This is the bit that gets me isn't disabled people classed as general public as I can Think of loads of marks that isn't accessable to a person in a wheelchair.
Also when the gate got opened surely that area was deemed in bounds and since the lad caught his fish in competion time and not outside of the times stated it should then count feel proper sorry for the lad
Well it sounds like the rules where bent as the pier was not open to the public only fishermen so there goes that rule
When I am not so tired I will put the result on Nesa shortly. Many thanks for your good comments about the South Shields Angling Club and the elected committee who unfortunately at times have to make a harsh decision. If anyone cares to take a walk along the cliff tops at marsden you will find notices there set in concrete to say it is dangerous to cross the barrier, but it is not out of bounds in the Shields Open as it is publicy accessible. Like that has been said before, the harbour master agreed to open the pier just for the anglers that took part in the shields open today and not the general public because we as an established club inform him by writing to him to ask his permission to fish the pier on the one open comp we have a year and I also enclose to the harbour master a copy of our public liability insurance, and in return I have to sign a public liability form so as the Port of Tyne will not be involved in any dispute if anyone gets hurt on the day. I wish all anglers who take part in our competiton read all the rules carefully and abide by them; but you never have that. My regret that is the man who did have the heaviest fish and bag was disqalified because he was on the pier before 8am meant he crossed the 1st gate before the 8am opening of the gate; this time was set by the harbour master and we must adhere to it as the south pier is operated by the Port of Tyne. It also states in our rules that any one crossing any barrier where there is no public access their catch will be disqualified and this was the case today. I will reply to comments made about my statement especially the one who says he knows people that wont fish the Shields Open anymore...............................................There might not be another one unless you read the bloody rules properly.
Keith Walker (Secretary)
The car park on the left hand side next to souter lighthouse has a sign saying closed to public cos the cliffs are falling or something like that if the winning fish came from there would they be disqualified as it is closed off to public just like the lad on the pier.
