Shore fishing in general

Well as a few know i sold off 90% of all my shore gear just keeping the odd winter rod and spinning rod in the hope that the reports would spur me on to give it a try again.

After last year and this year reading the reports on here and other sites its clear it was the right choice in my opinion, people seem to consider a night with 3-4 whiting, coalie flatties a good trip or 1 or 2 small codling......it jusr all seems a waste of time and money to me even if its just to get you out the house. When i packed in i considered a good night 15-20 whiting or a mix of species thou i was not very lucky with the cod and only landed 1 double from the shore in my time and 1 night when i had 10 or more codling.

Seems a very poor show again this year even thou the conditions have been much improved from previous years.

Anyway good to see so mnay still sticking it out as its in our blood :)

Your right mate getting out fishing is just another hobbie unfortunately sumtimes you dont catch. But its all about getting out and trying. Theses days if you catch its a bouns. No mattet how big it is. Still for sum reason the sea draws me to it.and like u say it gets u out the house:)

I can see what your saying but i love fishing even if the fish aren't biting its my way of getting away from the stresses of life and just relaxing just as relaxing as having a few beers and watching the footie for me to catch fish really is just a bonus although it does get annoying after a few blanks though but i will never jack fishing in as long as ready and able

It's all a matter of relevance. Years ago I would get a buzz if I caught more than 3 or 4 "keeper" cod in a session. Now I' m lucky if I catch more than one, or even any at all. However that same "buzz" is there, if I only catch one.
The fishing was much better years ago, but there is no doubt it is relatively very poor now....................but never hopeless ! That's why I keep going, but there again I've often been accused of "having a screw loose".

theres a lot more people beating there p/b this past couple of months and and a whole lot of doublers caught for those who put the effort in i bet they dont pack in this year, i know there are a lot of whiting being caught but it keeps the club members happy get the gear out and catch one of those cod and you will change your mind. davy.

Its been a tremendous year for the codlings imo
Theres been more big fish caught this year than i can remember for a canny few year now
Still be a few piggies to be took yet aswell

This season has been one of the best in several years giving up lots of decent sized fish including more than quite Afew doubles from all areas giving the right conditions. Bare in mind a lot of anglers choose not to post catches whether there members of forums or not. May this season produce even more good/mixed bags and good luck to those who keep trying.

having a good moan again richie it might not be your type of fishing but it certainly keeps ya ticking away till boat season it wont belong before ya hitting loadsa doubles on the boat anar ya stopped posting about them for some reason so hopefully ya might of cheered up by april :D

Totally agree!

Some of us missed the glory days of fishing, ive never had many sessions where ive caught more than about 5 fish, so i dont know any better, im usually happy just not to blank, and i blank alot so if i have a session where i would catch 3 or more fish then id class that as a success lol. So for me it can only get better, i do get annoyed sometimes when i blank but i always get the urge to keep going back, its a challenge. Ive also never been on a boat fishing so i cant compare.

too many boats with nets etc hammering the fish for 25 years made it like this . PURE GREED !!! i often think that global warming has affected things also, i sold all my gear once , but bought it all back within 2 seasons , its in the blood i guess after 35 years of fishing ...

less fish - more challenge - better sport

if it was easy we would all get bored. for me its become an obsessiom, fuelled by the latest fish or the latest blank... if anything its the poor sessions that make me want to go again. i can honestly say if i was bagging up on cod all the time id get bored and the novelty would quickly drain away and thats why i wont go out on the boat.

the sport is what ya make of it, and with such variation of styles and species available i dont think ill ever get sick or bored

Too true the boats have raped the seas. Its a disgrace
