Well with getting a bit bored of fishing the tyne recently me and my two sons decided for a change and headed over to silloth on sunday. Low tide being 07.55 in morning so early set off it was for us got packed up and headed out at 4am.
didnt take long to get there really, parked next to nursing home in silloth and made the walk down to what is called Tommy Legs which is a low water shot. walk seemed to take forever the mark seemed to be getting further away not closer. anyway got to the mark and my youngest son got out first 2 hook flapper baited with rag, he was only in the water 5 mins at the most and he had a good pull down on his little bass rod, pulled it in and he was hoping it was a small bass but he got it in and was a codling and an ugly one at that arounf a poud in weight. fish went straight back.
me and my oldest sone got out and fishing was good from the off. my youngest was of to a flyer and pulled in a fish a cast consisting of flounder dab. nothing huge but kept us busy.
Things were quiet for me but after an hour or so it started to pick up and started getting dabs and some canny ones aswell. had to keep 3 as hook was too far down. Oldest sosn was into the dabs aswell.
after that it went a bit flat but tide started to flood then all we had was dab after dab. they were taking everything we put out baits sued were, rag, maccy, prawn and fresh peeler.
eventually we got pushed off by incoming tide so decided to go back to the car and head up to port carlisle.
whilst waiting for tide to push in we made some bait on a portable gas stove we will use for the mull later in the year. got to just before high tide so decided to get chucked out was a bit flat at first but then i got two canny flounder and oldest son had 1. youngest also got one, weather was good sunny and no rain, but spoke too soon within ten mins the heavens opened and the fish went off so decided to call it a day and head home.
youngest son[aka seatrooton here] had 12 fish i had 5 and oldest[mcazz] 5 aswell
all in all a cracking day out and cant wait to head over to silloth again really nice plaice to fish.
cheers pop65
