simple bait clip

I don't know if any one has used this method for a bait clip, but as you can see its just a cable clip pushed onto a crimp and left to float up and down the hook length with a bead above and below and3 silicone stop knots above and below the beads to adjust the tension . Bob ;););)

Never have thought of that

Never have thought of that

Ive got loads of those small cable clips would never have thought of that though you could use the small nail that goes through as a rotten bottom pin too kill two birds with one stone no wastage

I don't know if I'm missing something here, but what's stopping the bait clip from sliding back up the line? Shouldn't there be a crimp or a stop knot there or something?

Sorry if you misunderstood , there are 3 or 4 stop knots above and below the beads to stop this happening,;);)Bob

Sorry Bob; not being able to see anything above the top bead in the photo had me confused.
Thanks for explaining.

Hi John, only recently joined the forum and its good to know that someones already made some, tried them, and also knows that they work,. Have you made any with a larger clip.I haven't had a chance to try them yet. Bob

when a bait clip works properly for me it releases as lead is dropping down from its peak not as it hits the water just the way i prefer.
over the years the amount of times the hook is still in the clip when reeling in to bait up is very annoying mostly this happens on a side wind and the only way i can overcome it is not to use clips.

bait clips with big baits a prob also especialy when tying bait on with cotton it tends to wrap itself round the clip most annoying.

baits clips are very handy at times caught loads of fish with rigs on them but also very frustrating .

bait clips and f/spool reels just a no go for me just cannot get them not to prelease.

I have, and still when the occasion requires use breakaway imps, used in head winds, side winds and never had one fail to release to date.

on a side wind your lead end gear dos,nt come down straight and was thinking the idea of most bait clips they rely on impact on water to release the clip.
myself i have had the imps fail but do find them the most reliable.

i like the imps ,but there is another bait clip out there called the mustad hawiian link with bait clip , they are quite expensive , but never had one fail to release, and they tuck the hook right in behind the sinker for better flight , and distance imho,

Never seen this type before and they look as though they will do the intended job - as you say a bit pricey - looks likeI neeed to start looking at a home made version and start bending some wire.
