Sleepless Friday Nights !!

I dont think its a propping issue its just the size of the engine

looks about right to me

if you had a 100hp engine then it would push you straight out of the hole onto the plane and away you would go

thats whats happening with normans

but its something to bear in mind when i am looking

but if its plodding at 7 knots then super fuel economy then i would be plodding might take 4 hours to go to some of the marks i fish but he he he

cheers for the info rich

My maximum speed is 7 knots (22ft colvic seaworker, full displacement hull, 9hp yanmar inboard diesel) but with fuel consumtion at 1 litre per hour it suits me just fine...lol.

Might be worth heading out with both our boats to some offshore marks this year if you fancy Sean. I've been plotting some supposidly big wrecks a bit further than we normally go to try out.
Could do with some offshore rough ground marks if you have any you would be good enough to share pleeeese.

We're still looking at getting a new boat very soon but cant decide on what. Fancied an arvor but their all darn sarf and every time I've tried to sort a deal out its fell through or been sold before I ring.

Leaning towards a Raider 18 Fisherman at the min as their not to far away and the mooring costs should be the same, could also take it up to scotland in the summer.
Heard their not fitted out to a brilliant standard but we don't want luxury, just a good fishing platform and somewear to hide my head coming back in when it turns rough. As at the moment I come back in with a white face from all the dried salt lol.
People who I've spoke to that have them are well happy with them so that migh be our choice.

Just need to sort a deal out then get out and catch some fishies. ( try anyway)

Hi Codfather

Yes up for that last time i went well off i was on my own and its a bit spooky that far on your own

what range do you have on your boat as i have some good marks but they are well off thinking that if we go doubled then 40 ish shouldnt be a problem

i will get some rough ground marks the next time i go i will send you a pm and exchange numbers

as for the raider 18 my mate looked at loads of boats the other year and they look ok but they are very lightly built he ended up with a full package from warrior on a 175 and i can tell you its a fantastic boat and if i was going to get a new boat at the moment then the warrior 175 would be in my top group his has got the 100hp marriner on it

what are you doing with your boat and engine ???

Our range with the reiver sportsman and force 75 2 stroke (guzzler) is about 15 mile that we regularly do. Thats with a 30 litre can and two 23 litre cans. We use one can going out and pottering about, then another for coming back in and keep the third can as spare for emergency's. Had to break into the third can a few times when its turned rough.

But hope to get a new boat and 4 stroke very soon, so range would be a lot more once we were confident with the new setup.

40 miles sounds scary, I've been plotting some 20-25 mile wrecks to try. Happy to head for the horizon aslong as its a good forcast and everythings sorted on the boat.

What distance have you been out ?

How far out is marks like the wall and graveyard ?

We're thinking of partex'ing the reiver and engine in against a raider 18 fisherman with 80 or 100 hp merc, unless a nice pilothouse type comes up.

I remember you put a report up of one of your offshore trips that had good results last year.

Cheers for any info on marks.

graveyard is getting on for 40 miles off. If we get things sorted, sorta place we fancy having a plod out to. Plenty of big wrecks out there, but they have been heavily fished commercially over the last few years, although not as much in the last 2 from what I've been told

sorta place we'd want to set off for about midnight and cruise through the night to make the most of it

sounds almost like a trip on the cheiftain from whitby - 6pm start fish at 5am few wrecks then breakfast - move while having breakfast more wrecks lunch move while lunching, more wrecks tea and so on steam back over night.

i you want a crew please just ask. LOL

You could stop off at the graveyard on the way to norweigan water's with the Panzer.
Do you recon you'll ever get her on sail power Mark ?

Ditto :D

for info codfather i was about 36 miles off and that took about 2 hrs in which direction i wont say he he he

i used about 60 litres of fuel but that was out and back and all running about

it is good offshore and the fishing can be brilliant but sometimes you are steaming over fish

Plenty of room for crew, just don't expect to get anywhere in a hurry!

She may well sail again, she was built for it originally.

for any budding yotties out there she is effectively a Zulu hull which were well know for there speed and seakeeping, although with a few amends to take a proper engine she is technically a Baldie! and the biggest one afloat anywhere in the world

Have gotten to know the family that had her built in 1937 as a replacement for their previous boat, which was also called pansy and is now sitting at the bottom of loch ness - I've got a sail plan drawn up, we had a heavy tan lugsail donated, currently sat in Ell's garage, just need some big sticks to put it on and some string or something!

Loch Ness Project Find - Zulu Fishing Boat -The Pansy

they reckon they could get more speed out of her under sail than on the old kelvin motor that was in her, 6-8knots under motor, 10-12 under sail, one things for sure it'll be a damn site cheaper these days

be lovely to bowl along through the night under sail, usually shocks people just how quiet sailing is, no noise at all, just the slap of the waves!

Norway has been mentioned..... take us 2 or 3 days non stop to get there though!

but certainly want to get some big miles in this summer if we can, waiting on a time slot for some 'Fred' treatment first

36 Miles off Sean, begeezuz, hope you had your armbands.

We'll meet you out their Mark, the Panzer could be the mother ship and we'll spend the night out, not coming in till the holds are full to the brim with tunny.

Yes it is a long way but what you have got to look at is flat out and 5 to 6 miles per gallon my boat will do about 33 mph or about 28 knots if you like

so if you are out there and it starts blowing then of course we move further in and yes in just about 1/2 an hour we a have covered 15 miles if it is worsening then we might have to drop speed a bit but not by much and thats the way to look at it i only go on very calm days

i also have on my boat 2 comasses 2 gps's 2 vhf's a big aerial and can talk to land as far off as i have been, so the coast gaurd i would have no problems. i also have an auxhillary engine that will push me along at 10mph i also have offshore flare pack auto inflate life jackets aboard and have started wearing one all the time i am in the process of getting a pesonal locator that would be acctivated if i went overboard i have loads of other things i dont see on other boats but i am as safe as i can be

i took coddy out and it was flat but the forcast was the wind coming from the north a couple of times the breeze seemed to pick up ask coddy i woulnt go off as its not worth the risk

Down on the holderness coast where i first started with a boat its full of boat compounds and most of them boats used to go over 20 miles off it was the done thing out to the gas rigs fill the boat with fish then back in and this was regular from one compound i know it was a race to get out as you didnt want anyone getting your mark you might get out and no one else come out but some days there was over 20 boats offside even now lots of them all go offside

south coast boys go well off

it just seem to be a stigma with the north east lads that going further is a big no no why ??

well see you out there

I was surprised how clear we were getting the coastguard on the way back down, well over 30 miles off at tone point but still coming through as clear as anything. We're probably putting MF and SSB on as well the VHF.

one thing we need to get done and don't know if anyone knows anywhere local to get it done thats not stupid expensive, but we need the liferaft servicing

Hi Mark

it depends on make as some have to be done by certain suppliers and i thinkk its seago that have to go back to cosalt and they are mega expensive

hope this helps a little

sean

Sounds like your all kitted up Sean, I noticed all the gadgets on top of your cab.

Trying my best at the mo to get a new boat sorted for start of season, but hard doing loads of overtime at work at the same time.

Hopeing to get some decent weather this year and get some decent trips out, sure we'll see each other out their. I'll fetch me passport lol.

Been reading through my diving books for more marks to plot out and try.

I, cheers jason.
They had a canny QS 640 at a good price a while ago I would have liked to look at, but the wife had just given birth to our first child, and I was a little busy, so I missed out on it.

Had a crackin little lad tho, 10lb 5oz born, canny sized cod lol.

Can I come? I promise to to be awake for at least some of the trip :red:

We could quite easily act as a mother ship for any Yakkers wanting to get offshore as well.

Also can I shout at people / crew, I never get the chance to do it at work. :(

Once we're ready it would be a pleasure to take fellow NESA heads out. CAN'T WAIT ..... but will have to for now though.
