im looking to buy a new rod.was 100% going for a zipplex evo gt,{never had a zipplex before}.but ive heard good reports about the leeda icon m/sport ultra power.as the price difference is less than half for these rods,it could be a bwgof situation.whats your advice please.ps,wouldent buy 2 leeda rods, but would save a lot of money.

They are class m8 ;-) ive got the match and is an outstanding piece of kit I will be getting the power at the end of the month fingers crossed ;) if the rods had zipplex or Century on the blank they would be worth twice as much imo

I have the original ultra power Reg if you want to take it to try for a while, I understand its the same blank as the newer m sport

Ya right mr kast its the same blank but a bit butt heavier with the built in twist n lock reducer I think few lads on here just removed them:-)

heard a few bad reports of the eyes breaking very easy on the icon rods and to be honest you get what you pay for in all forms of life including fishing rods...

No such rod as the Evo GT, unless I'm misreading your post.

Evo is a rod made with higher modulus carbon which Terry reckons make them 20% stiffer / more powerful. So: M4 < M4 Evo, HST < HST Evo, ZTI < ZTI Evo etc... GT just means Terry has added a blended glass tip rather than a full carbon rod; better bite detection and makes casting the heavier leads a bit easier. Hence M4 GT, Bullet GT, Zeteque TXL GT etc...

Like Nicky says you get what you pay for. I've used a few different rods, Daiwa, Century, Abu but I love my Zziplex's and wouldn't part with them. Primo Synchro is a fabulous clean to mixed ground rod, light, very responsive, excellent bite detection and great feel but will still put a lead well over 250 metres in the right hands. M4 Evo is pretty much a perfect allround rod for the NE coast; very slim, very light, a fair bit stiffer than the Synchro but still loads of feel and has been cast over 300 yards on the field.

Oh, and if you think Zziplex rods are expensive (hand built in the UK), try looking on the Moonfleet site at the price of some of these continental rods :o

Just to add, if you can get yourself down to Hendon one evening after graft you are welcome to have a play with either or both of my Zziplex rods. I work just up the road in Leechmere so it's no bother to meet you down there.

The m4gt is/was know as the m4 evo gt

I believe he just knocked the "evo" bit off, same on the Profile GT

If that helps.

Its a bit hard to compare though.

Its like asking what's better between a Ford fiesta and a small BMW or Audi ;)

Zziplex (if you look after them) retain their value and are easy to move on.........if you can bring yourself to let them go.

M4gt nice low diameter rod with a great tip, surprising how well they behave in windy conditions and loads up well when casting.

Mind profile evo and gt are the future 😊

thanks for replies @ offers lads,m4gt thats the one, cheers steveG.sorry about that steward 1971.anyway ill leave it anothercouple of days.im beginning to think buy of buying a leeda icon blank then letting say fishfingers do it up personally for me with the best rings on the market.cheers.ps,thanks for your opinion bob c via pm. its looking like a tricky one, could save myself £150+ aswell as having my own personell rod made?
