got a call off my mate, he was down the pier yesterday, he hadn't been down for a long time and saw what he thinks are new signs, no this, no that, most importantly no fishing anybody know owt about them

Shields pier and the walkway have always been no fishing, just has never been enforced by the council.

Yeah the signs have been up a long time now they were put up by port of tyne after the last accident a few years ago as their family tried to take the port to court, the pier is nothing to do with the council

Alan, the NO FISHING signs that are displayed on the first gate are meant to stop anglers from standing or climbing on top of the seaward facing wall,ie,when float fishing and spinning and are not to prevent bait fishing.
I found this out by asking one of the Port of Tyne Pier Watchmen.
