Fished the rail end area of the pier today between 1.30 and 5.00. Fished with two rods, one close in and one further out using rag and mackerel. It was quiet fishing wise today, the people I spoke to said there hadn’t been much caught including mackerel. I ended up with four flounder with one of them being a decent size and all four of them took the hooks so deep I couldn’t get them out. The wind was a nuicance today, last thing I expected with the forecast for it being flat calm. It might have been with the wind rattling the rod tips that I missed the bites for the fish and they ended up swallowing the hooks. The fish were caught on the two rods with either the rag or mackerel bait. Didn't bother with pics, you all know what flounders look like:D My batteries ran out on the radio so I took off home to watch the match. Great start to the season for the Toon!

Good report. The rail end is one of my favourite summer spots always produces a fish and well away from the mackie bashers. Thanks for posting.

At least yer caught mate so well done. I've fished there a couple of times recently for the same reason as thunderpants but I don't rate it, much better on the 42-44 marks IMO

i it was hard going today my son managed the only codling that i no off which was size we also had a few size coalies ,whiting s undersize and dabs and mackeral but thats fishing

nice session mate yeah the toon won a easy game diving for penaltys :D and sunderland drew against a better side arsenel good start all around :D

Atleast there was a few fish about had a flounder from the rubble them headed to the end when the tide was ebbing to join Trevor for a couple of hours whiting a chuck most undersized packed in at sunset.

Nice one Mark, at least you didn't blank, it was a bit windy like but when the sun came out whoa it was hot. Nice pic Dave, and a cracking result for toon considering they didn't turn up until an hour into the game.

Think the poor weather will put paid to the maccy very soon mate so we will get the pier back from the morons!! :D:D:D

I never seem to catch at the rail end either tbh and find 42-44 much better despite the fact I aint managed one bait session this summer with all the lure fishing! lol
