went down at 345 to find it busy again so had to fish next to the hut just after no 8 was getting bites every cast but all under size 3 codling 3 flaties 2 whites nd few crabs stopped till 930 still lost 5 rigs but not to bad as far as i could see most ppl doing the same, better night

Don't know how you were losing gear there mate as long as you get over the rocks it should be sand unless the big tide have take a lot of sand out and exposed some rough rocks, if you look at the old concrete pipe on the beach near the pier it's a good indicator if the sand is up to its base the beach is clean within casting distance of the shore and the slab area but if there is a big gap I've notice that the beach and the slab area can be a little snaggy but not too bad

plaged by crabs so maybe they were finding the snags or just not casting far enough

I was there last night and the water was full of ****e when the tide was flooding in, my hooks were coming back weeded.

if it casts bait into the water m8 , its as much chance of a fish as a £ 500 set up , take no notice of tackle tarts , you;ll get better gear in time im sure .

i remember fishing the blast one seaham open , nothing doing , along walks this aged fella with wellies cut from chest waders , he sets up 20 yards from us , rod stand was 2 sticks joined together , rod and reel from the arc , within an hour and a 60 yard cast he pulls in a 4lb er , we asked if was in the comp and he said no , turns out he would of won that day best part of £ 500 . :o

Spoke to the lad coming off (not one of the tackle tarts you mention) and during the general chat discovered he was using 20lb line straight through after telling me he was getting snap offs when trying to chuck it further out. Showed and supplied a shocker for him and hey presto, out it went no probs - advised about the dangers of not using shock leaders especially on piers etc with other anglers in close proximity - also advised to use this forum to get some bargains on getting gear - Dusty bin for sinkers and how to make his own rigs etc - He is spending a small fortune on terminal tackle etc. He asked about rods and I told him he just miised a bargain (WR 300 for £135)

Don't worry about some tit mouthing off as they walk past just go fishing and enjoy what you do, how many fish were they carrying as they walked past, you'l get more gear over period of time you'l learn what's to buy and what not just ask the lads on here for any advice

i was 10 when i began fishin and the gear then wasnt pretty by todays terms , we used to poke a rod stand in the sand and pour hot lead in hole and quickly stick a wire loop in to make our leads , rods were not the best and most multiplyers at the time had a 2-1 retrieve ,these metal tripods hadnt even been invented , we;d see a 2nd hand rod or reel in a 2nd hand shop and go in and reserve it , usually £ 10 for a reel, and save our paper round money up to pay for it, BUT the fishin was hellish back then when the pits were gannen , you'd catch cod with a stick them days , if we had todays gear back then , boy it would of been awesome. :D:D

No probs mate, just happy to help, every angler and I do mean EVERYONE has had to start from scratch, its a learning curve and over time you will recieve good and bad advice. NEVER be worried to go and ask advice from the people you think have the experience. Some good lads on this forum, As for fixed spools, I also use them, as well as mutlipliers - Penn 850 Surfmaster - Shimano XT 8000. Penn Mag 525. ABU 9000C, Okuma Mag. Nowt wrong with your gear mate. and as you progress you will naturally want to upgrade. One thing is always for certain - THE FISH DON'T KNOW WHAT ROD + REEL YOUR USING. The Tackle Tarts as we say seem to miss this basic concept. JEEZ I have caught fish with a Handline from Roker Pier when I was a nipper. Happy Days

Bad crack that like mate, anyone fortunate to have decent gear shouldn't poke fun at others not so fortunate its just not on
