Had a couple of hours on St Marys last night, fishing into Crisps gulley I am told - down the steps to the left of the lighthouse and straight ahead. Anyway nothing on the big rod belted out into the middle of the gulley although I did get a few tentative inquiries on big crab and mussel baits on 4/0.

Caught a few smallish coalies on the float to save the blank.

What suprised me is that I never lost any leads - and maybe thats why I didn't catch on the big baits ? Any advice much appreciated.

go further to the right ,you can see where all the kelp is,its heavy ground or go on the front of the island and fish the stone pillar, loads of kelp there.i would drop your hook size down a bit as theres wrasse there at the min.ive been using a 2/0 manta with crab and muscle.on bigger tides you can get in front of the pillar just to the left,i like to belt it straight out as far as I can but wind in like stink as you come over the top of the kelp beds so you don't hook up into it
