I'm thinking about trying st Mary's island this weekend. How far up and down the tide does it need to be before I can get on without getting wet.

Cheers.

its about 2 hours either side of high to get on and off.or your stuck on from 2 hours before high to 2 hours after.thats about because depends how big the tide is.you can stay on over high tide and fish crisps if you don't mind being cut off and even then on small tides you could wade off if you had to

Thanks for the help. What is crisps and is it best to fish there over low or high tide? I wouldn't mind being cut off.

crisps is the gully on the left as you go on,if you fish over high water theres more depth there and less people if any ,left on the island.its deeper at the front of the island next to the stone pillar but that's a low water shot and better on big tides.if your fishing on the bottom you will need rotton bottoms as its heavy kelpy ground,if your float fishing set your depth up without your hook link on and fish just above the kelp.some nice wrasse and Pollock plus kelpys there at the min
