Took the son down there for the first time for about three hours last night.

We fished three rods all with rag and caught a Flounder, a Codling of about 1lb and 2 undersized Whiting. All returned to fight another day. And all taken on the two rods that were fishing beyond halfway across the river. The son can only cast maybe 50 yards or so and didn't get a sniff, except for pulling back in the rig he lost earlier in the night. :D

All in all not a bad little outing, especially as it was 4 hours before low water when we got there.

well done.I tend to find the south side(gateshead)fishes better on the flood,i had fish on the ebb at the basin before, but had nowt on the gateshead side fishing the ebb.As soon as the council have finished the work their doing,it will be a good shot opposite the basin.

Anndy are you on about the gateshead side of the river. If so m8 i fish it regular, plenty of fish to be had down there.Had some nice bags of codling out from just behind gateshead stadium over the years, have seen a few good fish caught too.
