Thanks for the offers of wire. Can you use 18 guage for casting or will it pull out of leads?
I think I\'ll try the mountain bike wheel idea as i can then get a drop net thrown in for free (if I can find somewhere to get netting, another question perhaps ).

make sure they fit the mold Geoff,the ones I salvaged fitted fine,you like the idea of the drop net lol,just realised after I pulled all the spokes out,not sure about the netting though

i would only use the 18 gauge wire for what its supposed to be used for making the grips and use proper tailwires for your weights they are cheap enough to buy and its better to be safe than sorry

Let me know the diameter or circumference of the wheel rim and I will see if I have a net to fit

like alan i just use armoured cable and put a sharp bend 1/4\" or so at the end so it gets a good grip on the weight,never thought about the bike wheel lol ive just chucked about 8 over to the scrap man,i also use welding rod and bend it the same way,ive never had any come loose and no come backs from any ive sold

just thought id mention that i had to open the hole up a bit to accept a double wire instead of single
