I too keep tropical marine fish and have done so for many years. I've always been aware that it is illegal to remove sand, creatures or water from beaches but I have never heard of anyone being pulled for it.
IMO topics like this become emotive not because people have a lack of respect for the law or the police but because they are frustrated by the impotence of the police to deal with the types of crime that effects us all in our day to day lives. Lets face it, the odds of getting caught speeding are far greater than the odds of having your burgled possessions retrieved. The police have a thankless job and are in a no win situation but when we hear about situations like this ( if true ) then it doesn't inspire confidence in policing priorities.
I really hope that this is an windup because if it is true then it means that there's a copper out there who should never have gotten through the aptitude tests and is doing nothing more than destroying the publics confidence in the police.
