When i started back to Sea fishing i bought an ABU Suveron XP Thinking it would be an ideal all round rod-i was however wrong. Bite detection is dismal. In fact its like fishing with a clothes pole.Would using the reducer again help?, Or do i buy a fast action rod such as a RX 4-6 oz. I fancy a Tip Tornado. Is this to extravagant. Also been looking at the 4-6 ounce MK3 Sonic. The Ron Thompson Accellerator is also on my mind.

ABU GARCIA SUVERAN BEACH SERIES
This beach series has a multi-dynamics blank construction, a 1K-3K woven graphic blank, has original Fuji guides, a grip-lok adjustable reel seat, a shrink wrapped handle. It is ideal for pendulum or over head casting and suitable for all sea conditions. Tackleworld offer this rod in three different models:
The beach caster XP is 13' long and has a casting weight of 6-8ozs. The RRP is £199.99 - Tackleworld price of £150.00.

The second rod in this series is the beach caster RX which is a 13' rod and has a casting weight of 4-6ozs and an RRP of £199.99 - Tackleworld price of £150.00.

The third in this series, is the beach caster SX, it is 12'9" long and has a casting of weight 4-6ozs. The RRP is £209.99 - Tackleworld price is £160.00.

Mick i bought the Sonik SK3 14ft casts 5-7oz think i paid £109 when the factory at Blyth first opened and i carnt fault it, casts well and picks up on the smallest of bites. Used it on most of the rough ground marks north of the Tyne - Cambois Rocks - Newbiggin Cliffs ect and its never let me down and seems to be a good value for money Rod. Use it with Slosh 30 - Abu 7500c3 in the reel down position and its spot on.

Tip Tornados are fantastic, I'll be buying another soon as funds allow ;)
R T Axellerators are also excellent value for money, nice and stiff and bite detection is very good. I have 1 and ya welcome to have a go if ya like! Only downside to them is there a bit on the thick side. I have the reel down the butt and sometimes when using my slosh30 my thumb slips off the reel.

If you are going for a Tip Tornado go for the sport as this is the
best one out of the lot. The bite detection is spot on and it can
handle a 5oz plus big bates no probs.
The only thing i can say is don't go for the new model (2009) as
with the tip and but the same size i think that it has lost a bit
of its stiffness go for the last model up to 2008 as i have that
one and its a great rod and also finished off better too.
You can pick a good one up for £140-£180 but make sure you
get the reducer and bag with it.

you wont get a better rod than the ron thompson axcellerater ( if the spelling is correct), it has to be the best rod i have ever used, cracking alrounder, great on the rocks as the piers/beaches, I can not fault the rod.

i have both the abus mick, the xp and the rx, the rx is a bit more forgiving and does show bites better but also bounces around in rough tides more, performs well with reasonable sized baits and 5oz lead, even a 6, realistically both rods are better than my skills,i have used both with the reducers and i find the extra length does not improve my distances

i have just purchased a Sonik SK4 14 footer but cant really comment on it yet as i have not tried it out but i also have the 13' 6" Ron Thompson Axellerator which i have had for 2 yrs and i think its a cracking rod for the money, like above post, the blank is quite thick and the rod is fairly stiff but imho its a superb all rounder (heavy ground, piers or whatever), just hope my Sonik SK4 is as good if not better.....tight lines;)

If the truth was known the Tip Tornado is the rod i would really like. I,m not keen on the thin ones though.LD. Seen them in shops and they look odd.
On our compo down at Felixstowe recently the Tip Tornado was top prize in the raffle.
Unfortunatly i did not win it.
Thanks for the advice about the sport.
Mick.

Hi Mick
I bought the ron thompson acellerator a couple of weeks ago and have only used it once and it was great to use I cant wait to get out soon and hopefully catch something this time on it. I chucked a 6oz weight out a long way. I posted a add on this site asking which was best between a few rods and ron thompson was the winning rod it cost me just over £100 from frasers at coatsworth road
cheers stew

I know i have had a few years out but i also had a good 3-4 seasons with a century kompressor grand prix and i never faulted it not once(matched up with a slosh 20), As soon as you get the hang of the rod its a baby. 13ft6" and pumps what lead and big massive baits you can put on it. Nice response for a hefty rod and can handle any marks, pier beach rock heavy kelp the lot. Ive just dug mine from the depths of the shed and its still like new as it should be i suppose after only 3-4 winter seasons, but then again i always maintaned my gear.

I bought the rod as a blank direct from century at washington and had it built up to my own spec(purple whipping fuji rings reel down the seat) at a massive reduction in the then price which was around £250 ish. Dont know what has if anything replaced it in the last 8-10 years rod name etc etc. But if you can get your hands on one of those models you wont go far wrong.

Ps im sure i saved at least £70 at the time.

Hopefully its going to catch me some more cod this season, with ease.

The TT sport is a top rod, I own two ( 2009 models ) although I hav'nt a great deal of experiece with these rods, up to now They are better than I expected, and beat all the other rods I ever owned. If its toughness you want I had a Century compressor grandprix bought from Andy Rutherfords years ago and that was one of the best all round rods I ever owned, cant seem to get them now.

mick if its a tip tornado for the rough stuff, its a grand prix you want, only stumbling block is you dont see many of them about, ive been after one for months....

The 14ft SK4 can handle the rough ground no bother but is very light and sensitive. Fishing for rays in Ireland picked up the bites from flounders no bother. Landed conger to 17.5lb. I'm very impressed so far, definately worth a look.

that is almost exactly the way i have gone.....just replace rt ax with dam adrenaline,,,,,brilliant rod and have been told its the same bank....i then bought the SK4 14 ft as well........

last season i ended using the sk4 for all my fishing barring the cliffs , the sk 4 handled heavy kelp and heavy ground....with a slosh 30 at a high position.
it handled clean beaches with a 6500 both up and down the butt, it handled over head thumps to full pendulum and as for bite detection it is brilliant.....

but i found it cast alot better when the whole cast was slowed down a bit ....or maybe its just my style....
overall i think that the sonik is an easier rod to cast..and has the edge on clean ground ....but the dam / rt has the edge for cliff fishing or really heavy work....
my opinion is that for the money asked for each rod they are both excellent value....they both have the feel of more expensive rods...........

i often wonder how many hundreds more anglers would choose either of these rods if it was made by the 2 major manufacturers....if you know what i mean..;) ;)

you could try the anyfish anywhere tourney match or ther 2 new ones, andy rutherford is a dealer. baz blakeman lifted his 9 lber over hendon prom with his anyfish anywhere tourney match rod last year . he swears by his rod.
