Third trip of the year today and after a good spell on some close in wrecks and rough ground the other day we all fancied a change so the plan was to head off and hit some far off wrecks, same crew today with Graham and my cous Dave on his 3rd fishing trip.
Because i was planning on watching 11 players trying to play football at 4pm a 6am down the marina start was the order of the day and met by a nice sun rise.
Stopped at the first wreck and i hit 2 codling straight away on pirks and Dave landed a big herring that came in usefull later on in the day as bait
We decided to keep moving thou and see what was on the 200ft+ wrecks and we found something you dont see very often our days other than on ebay or in a scrap yard...a working Naval ship.
By 10am the sun was out and it was a fantasic day with 0.0-0.2 drift for over 2 hours, we kicked back and chilled as a seal popped up to say hi.
I decided to head even further off and try some more wrecks, by this time we had a few codling around 2-3lb in the hole then Graham stricks into the first ling of the year and a new record for 1st ling landed on Stingray.
Soon followed by a second a third a fourth well you get the point
It was steady away with a fish a drift a mix of codling but mainly ling, my cous Dave got his biggest codling so far and was chuffed. Graham continued to try out new rigs he had made over the winter and the fish hold was full and time ticking on so the drive back home was planned.
I decided to hit a patch of rough ground on the way back but this resulted in nothing at all, so in at 2.30pm with a box full and a sun tan, fantastic day.
My catch 6 ling and 3 codling biggest 7lb.
Until next weekend..ow its a good feeling this fishing lark
