Well a few hours booked in on leave today so a silly start time of 5.30am was agreed and i met Ian down the marina for a few hours wrecking.
We got a quick set away and past the piers before 6am, straight out to a 4 mile wreck with a fantastic flat sea and no wind at all in front of us. First mission catch some mackerel and it was looking like mission impossible for over 30mins with only one mackerel landed and about 100 coalie lol but we managed 20 or so for bait and the BBQ.
Decided not to fish close in today and passed all the inshore wrecks with the fear they will have been hammered with the spell of flat weather (since the weekend)
We plugged away taken cod 1-2 a drift and more coalie further out, soon joined by the JFK
By this time the sun was up and with the tide ripping past at around 1.4k i decided to go for a swim in the sea
I am glad it was cold and things vanished as i had a bad feeling a mackerel may think food
When the slack tide came we started hitting the ling and quickly got sick of them after a few kept for the pot, the rain was on and off and towards the end of the day the wind got up and set the sea away to a slight but what a cracking morning, it was t-shirt and shorts weather and flat as could be sea.
So the catch well we ended up with 30+ cod over 3lb, 8 ling and 1 pollack alogn with 100s of coalie, pouting, mackerel, whiting and more smaller codling put back
My catch 12 cod from 3-7lb, 5 ling around 5lb and 1 pollack about 4lb
No big fish but good fun on light gear and nice few hours at sea before work.
