Stingray 250lb of fish 6.08.09

Well wont put much on as let the camera men do the real report.

Myself, Jason and Dave (Pondlife) heading out at 7am for a promising day with a smooth sea.

Stopped off outside the piers but found it hard going for the mackerel only taken about 15 between the 3 of us in 20mins so off we went to a 3mile wreck.

Had a few drifts over the wreck and Jason landed the 1st cod/ling of the day...a 5lb ling.
Nothing else off that mark so headed off to try a few new ones i not plotted before, 2hr steam later and we started on a few wrecks...not a great deal showing but steady away with cod and ling comming in every few drifts.

We ended up hitting a shoal of mackerel so soon had 40 or so for bait..so off we went further out and after a few wrecks that only produced a few cod and ling we hit the "dream" wreck.

Taken about 35 cod and ling between us. best cod 8lb and best ling a nice double for Jason at 11lb.9oz.

So after we had tired ourselfs out we headed for home at 5ish with over 50 cod and ling as well as whiting and mackerel/sandeel.

Great day out and alot returned (35ish)

Two hours steam and then some more??? that's a canny hike , but sounds like it was worth it , I'm far too impatient to steam for that long , if it's more than 20 minutes I stop and fish regardless where I am I can get a fair distance in 20 minutes mind if the conditions are right ...... getting back if it turns is what bothers me

Great report ritchie, was out today on my mates boat but found it hard work with five cod between 4and 6lb one decent ling and kept about 20 mackeral but still a nice day and the drifts were perfect, no kite flying.

aye aye richie. i havent fallen to sleep mate, ive just finished filleting them fish. its taken 2 hours.
Well, I was kindly invited to join richie and jason aboard the stingray today to try some hard wrecking. I didnt know quite what to expect so i packed what i thought was plenty of terminal tackle and a new rod & reel to christen.
It was a lovely morning to head out, like dream weather

It turned out to be a slow start for the lads by there standards although i was more than happy with the returns of cod and ling.

after what i though was a reasonable day compared to all others id had on boat trips before, we then hit the dream wreck. all three hittting good fish straight away.

we all brought aboard ling ranging from 5-8 lbs and cod in much the same region on most drifts for the rest of the day

As Richie said, we ended up with a boat full. conservative estimate at 250lb and id say just over 200lb of it taken from our last wreck in the space of 2.5 hours

At the end of the day i walked away with more fish than ive ever caught before but little in the way of tackle left. High risk high gains as they say.
after reluctantly calling it a day we put the tired rods to bed and headed back into port to reflect on a days superb sport.

not a day ill forget in a hurry, great weather, fantastic fishing and even better better company. you dont often get all three together so when you do best make the most of it.

no probs charlie we return fish all day several cod to about 5lb went back with most of the ling cought, the ling were returned and the only ones kept were the ones that would not swim back to the wreck.
