Day of two halfs weather wise, flat sea no wind at all and rain am, wind, choppy sea and sunny pm.

Nice day out anyway, tried 8 wrecks some 9-11 miles out with not a touch other than pouting so ended up heading close in again to do what i had hoped to avoid..rough ground fishing...ended up with the normal stamp of fish 1-3lb from there ad the scotties.

Water was very coloured but never seen ti so flat this year, drift was from 8am until about 1pm 0.1 to 0.3 of a knot. Dropped some big baits down ont he wrecks but nothing, bit slack for the pirk but gave it a bash anyway.

Canny company from Big.sid and he managed the 1st line caught herring today (see pic 6")

I tried every stop for mackerel from 1 mile to 11 mile sout but nothing yet.

Couple of pics but forgot i had the camera until the end of the trip :)

pic 1 Behind the boat
2 Close in at Tynemouth
3 Standard size codling
4 Nice Herring

Nice report richie. Shame the hols are not coming up with the goods.

Tony,
If you consider what Seahouses is famous for ...kippers...ie Herring a la barbie it should answer the question. Google Northumbria and herring and you will see it was once a staple industry.

The north sea was famous for the herring catches with all ports landing huge quantities. Scarborough and whitby had a huge herring fleet along with a renown tuna fishing industry based on the fact they chased them into the north sea. Where did they all go ? No points for a correct answer.

Incidently the region now imports herrings to provide the customers with their famous product.

Nice management Mr Commercial!!

Cheers

IT MOST CERTAINLY WAS A GOOD TRIP EVEN THOUGH THE FISH WERE PLAYING HARD TO FIND.GOOD WEATHER,SMASHING SKIPPER JUST A SHAME NEPTUNR HADN'T SENT ALONG SOME OF HIS PET COD FOR US.WHATS BETTER THAN TODAY:question:WERE DOING IT ALL OVER AGAIN TOMORROW:D

do herring usually get caught in this area

only if you fish for them, use tiny hokkais once you have located the shoal on the finder, last summer and the summer before there was some good catches of herring.
AND I AM QUITE PARTIAL TO A HERRING AS WELL AS MACKEREL, HINT, HINT

Still looks like Whitby doing better than up here at the moment, hit some new wrecks and some cracking ones from last few years..not a sniff and perfect drfit and bang on top then down the sides...nowt..anywya out today but feel it will be the same story today.

Same again today, nothing but scotties off the wrecks and the standard size codling and scotties on the rough ground.

Not a great deal about at all of late, spoke toa few people with no luck for them and also ended up on a 6 mile wreck with a Blyth charter and about 10 on board at 2pm...result for the boat....1 codling.

Still always next week and have a hell of a tann now and the weather was cracking...not a drop on rain all day at sea and flat sea.

Hope you have some luck Shanka after we held you up fueling main and back up tank up :)

Yer we showed a few large shoals on the sounder but never had any smaller hooks to catch them.

Was out with Richie today, didn't have fresh crab but did try some lage frozen crab baits, back of St mary's & yellow can with no results.Still had another great day out onboard Stingray, Cheer's Richie for the two trips out can't wait to be invited back onboard.

Never tried some of your normal marks Keith as stayed North today but as stated Sid tried Crab, just not a great deal about other than scotties or 1-3lb codling at the mo.

Jfk was out so maybe he did better.Wont be long man until the water cleans up and a few better ling start showing am sure.

Good luck if your out, drift was good again today, sure you lot manage a few close in with the fresh crab and mackerel..never tried the flowing traces or at anchor...maybe next time if its still hard going...still ended up with codling for the pot thou and two good days just not the bigguns i was hoping for.

Cheers lads, out on The Boys in the morning, was hoping to try the shads & pirks but it sounds like crab will be the order of the day.

Its very muddy close in but once you get 2 miles out you can see your daylights or pirk about 8-10ft down, close in and its gone after 3ft lol.

They prob go wild for the fresh crab Keith in the current conditions, never really had any bait that gave a good trail really.

Good luck anyway...sitting here nursing sun burn now lol
