Strange Weather

Took boat out sat and sun from seaham marina,wether better than some summer days.
Few decent size whiteys but no cod.trying again monday before weather takes a change for the worse.:red:

Better than blanking mate , had a walk down there there this afternoon and never saw any boats out, bit of a shock considering the weather, hoping to hear about the mooring this week

Sounds like seaham marina is going to be a pain if you couldn't get out when you wanted yesterday, even amble was accessible all day with that neap tide.

Sounds like seaham marina is going to be a pain if you couldn't get out when you wanted yesterday, even amble was accessible all day with that neap tide.

Swings and roundabouts Ray, its my home fishing grounds, no debris will collect in the marina, 10 mins from home, so putting up with having to vary the hours of being out fishing doesnt outweigh the plus points for me...

Aye Arthur, like the silly o'clock i'm getting up at again.....to go to work...

When i was in sunderland i went out anytime or any tide, didnt really bother me....as long as it was after 6am ....

If the depth of water at the gate drops between 1m-1.5m the gate closes to maintain the depth in the marina, a warning buzzer sounds for 5 mins before and during the gate closing.....i watched it at the weekend and it took a while to fully close, so not much chance of getting stuck in the gate

In answer to your question Ray.the gate is auto when water level drops to 1.3 mts the gate will close to keep water in the marina.when tide floods thegate will open at 1.3 mts and remain open for approx 7hrs.
It takes alittle bit getting used to but found hasnt been a problem.

Sounds not too bad, at Amble the cill holds the water in the marina , we are a half mile or so up the river , I need 2ft of water over the cill to get in and out , on big spring tides I am locked in at low water as the cill has no water over it, on a neap like yesterday even at low water there is enough water over the cill to get in and out, that's why I'm surprised the gates closed on the marina at seaham . I guess seaham marina must be built slightly higher above sea level than amble.

I think the reason for it being shallow Ray, is when they drained the dock for the works to be done they found that removing all the silt from the bottom would weaken the old stone walls that surround the dock, so the silt was left in, resulting in it being shallower than the channel outside the dock...
