Summer comp anyone ??

Just posting this to get an idea of the feeling for a Summer Comp, organised and run by Amble SAC.

As some of you may know, the weather played havoc with the attendance at this years open, and having budgeted for 400 anglers we found ourselves 100 short. This equates to a loss on the day of £1000. To make sure next years open (Jan 9th 2011) goes ahead as planned, we MUST recoup most or at least some of this money.

We are proposing to have a summer open comp, obviously on a smaller scale than the winter open, on June 27th.

Fortunately, we have a good selection of prizes to help us, mainly rods, (Sonik and Greys), which will make up the prize table. If we have sufficient entries, we will of course allocate cash as well, but this is totally dependent on numbers.

As with the winter open, this will be a Penn points match.

So......do you think it's a feasible thing to do, and, more to the point, would many members on here support this event ?

Thanks for your time.

Tony

I'd go for it Tony. There's not much happens in the summer so would be a good break. I know this would mostly suit scratchers like as the cod just wont be there but you could put the super pool for heaiest bag and fish to make it a cash match. Just not sure how many people would fish it without the (carrot on a stick) prize money. Is there no way you could get the local council to sponsor it like the Easington and Seaham opens or have you already been there?

summer comp

i would quite happily fish this competition especially after not being able to fish last month due to the conditions.

also see who i think is you on the amble website for last sunday, well done on the flatties if it is you. i was also out and caught nothing. im starting my course in the merchant navy this weekend but should be home next weekend to do some fishing! might catch you out somewhere Tony!

back to the competition point, i think the fellow anglers out there will see that the club needs help and will be more than happy to fish, well i hope thats the case especially if next years winter comp isnt a certainty..
John.

I fish all the opens throughout the season and myself and other match anglers i know would certainly fish a summer open comp up your way mate, some good fishing to be had in the summer in the weeds, defo give it a go.

Just noticed that the Rutherford's Open on the Tyne is on the same date - a bit torn now as I always fish the Rutherford's League during the summer....:confused: Otherwise would definitely fish it.....

Gary :)

Rutherfords is now the 20th.

Mind you, our date isn't finalised yet. It might even be in July. I'll get full details posted early next month.

Keep looking in !

I've yet to speak with Mick who organizes the Whitley open Summer League to find out what's happening this year, but am sure we'd arrange a match to be fished in conjunction with your open (as has been done in the past when there's a clash of dates), which would hopefully guarantee a few more anglers for both sides.

I also like the sound of July, it gives the codlings a bit more time to get established in the weeds:red: Will keep an eye out for your future date.

Cheers, Gary :)

I think you could get a good bit of support for that Tony as it's before the main holiday season mate. If I feel up to it I might just have a go myself as there are a few beach marks your way that I can manage still.

Jim.

Would love to see you there Jim...long time and all that !

The comp has now been accepted as a Penn points match too.
