Supplying Frozen Fish!

Just looking for your advice on the following ~

I have always been of the understanding that when buying frozen fish that it should be gutted prior to purchase, but only recently whilst working out in the Far East I see a number of the Tiddly Wink Ship Chandlers (Swindlers) are supplying whole fish which hasn’t been gutted – I understand this is to do with the weight hence they can make more profit but surely this affects the quality of the fish? I’ve goggled it and there appears to be mixed opinions, any advice on this subject?

Cheers, Mike

I think it may depend on the species, some of them have very strong stomach acids which take no time at all to affect the surrounding flesh. As for the rip off part, I agree. Take a 6lb cod, by the time you gut and fillet it, you are left with around 2./3/4lb of fillets.
