Hi Nuke
I,ve fished several times around Cold Knapp near Barry Island and have caught and seen caught a good variety of species. ie.
Small eyed ray
Dogs
Congers well into double figures the biggest estimated 45lb+(did,nt have scales big enough)
Bass
Bull Huss
and of course decent sized Cod(more of a winter species)
Cold Knapp you don,t need megger distance as it,s a vey steep stoney beach best fished on a medium flood tide.
The other side of Cardiff Airport is the renowned big fish mark Aberthaw Power station, locals fish this mark using rotton bottom rigs with crab and sandeel baits for big huss!!!!!at distance,if you don, tget a bite you don,t get your gear back, Ive never seen a heavier bottom anywhere on the planet than here and Iv,e been all over. fish the power stn over low water then you,ll see what the bottoms like, try fishing by the hot water outfall for nice Bass.
Main baits for Cold Knapp are crab sandeel squid and blacks.
Hope this may be of some help!!

my old stomping ground, both these a bit of a hike from swansea if just after a couple of hours fishing
knapp is currently full of doggies, wont catch anything else as their hitting the bait the moment its in the water, can get some canny congers at night near the rocks at the left hand side of the beach plus the advantage of being able to park right where you are fishing. If you want rays fish around the otherside of the headland into the bay...this is the mark that was on the free dvd with sea angler a couple of months ago
aberthaw is great, but as stated the rock mark end is really heavy going, used to use spark plugs, bit of old metal cut into chunks, anything else can find as you lose a weight every cast, makes the northumberland rock marks look like a sand beach! not helped by the huge tidal pull... you can fish the otherside of the power station near the tidal lagoons, here the botom is more mixed with sand and shingle patches...arive at low tide dig your bait, theres lug, harbour rag and accosional sand eels and then fish the flood for bass, rays or if calm float fish for mullet, need to park at east aberthaw and 15 min walk down to sea wall, this used to be my favourite local spot. You can also fish near the water outlet towers at low tide, but this is a bit of a hike along the sea wall, float fish or spin for bass, mullet or makeral or use a rotten bottom rig for doggies
there are also good marks at ogmore, surf beach with deep water rock mark at on end and porthcawl
neerer to where you will be there are spots right around swansea bay, as stated in previous post mumbles was my favourite check the wsf south and west wales catch page just before you go for the best marks at the time, is used a lot more than the n east page is there is also the option of heading out on a charter from swansea if you fancy, plenty to catch in the channel up to porgies and blues!
