after watching a couple of DVD's I made of my African adventure on my mates cinema sized televison screen while in Scotland, it has made me realise what I am missing with my old tele, which was actually given to me by my son when he left the RAF, wont tell you how long ago that was, and am thinking of getting another one. Anybody got any views on which are the best for value. have been reading some of the reviews but as normal they all differ so why not complicate matters more and ask you lot.

Well Alan I've got a 42" lcd and I love it mate ,since I bought mine a few months ago there have been so many offers out there ,Argos seem to do loads and of course House of Fraser give you a free three year warranty .

i've got a couple of 50" samsung plasma's, cant fault them, and they were only £ 800 each from pc world at xmas, probally only £ 500 now, worth every penny, they have a good selection and they will price match

aye agree, spend you cash mate and get a big telly. I got a 39 (i think) on HD with sky .... WOW superb.
Like bob said pricematch is the way in fact pricematch themselves.
I looked in currys etc and chose the set then went home sorted a google search and took the results into the shop and they matched the best.
Good luck mate

Thats just for his plotter and fish finder.......

You want to see the size of his TV's ;)

I thought that was his windscreen Alan :)

Here is a pic of him, obviously he's tanned just back from the Canaries and all that.

Boblies looking for a larger screen now, you can hardly see the fish on this one....

Obviously Bob's the one standing in front of the plasma, the other one's a bear (with a fish)

Good HD though.

Does Sky really do HD though, especially in sports? is it not pretend HD. It's probably real, the australian camera man was more than likley taking the **** out of me at the match.

Al

i asked for info a while back and decided on a 42" plasma - it is perfect ,no drag on live football or any other sports and all other TV programes are really crystal clear

i was told off the bloke from curry`s, that up to 38" is a LCD - anything above must be a Plasma ,dont know how true it was ,but it has worked for what i bought - and also depends on the size of the room your putting it in

We've got a Hitachi 42" HD Plasma, had it a year and a half, can't fault it. Picture quality is stunning no matter where you sit in the room. Sound quality excellent, had fancied a tarty sound system but didn't need it. Got it wall mounted to free up space but it originally came with a fully motorised stand so you could rotate the screen using the remote if you had it on a normal telly cabinet.

BriH have got that little bit of info from the reviews on internet, although with progress things are leveling out. Another bit of info a Plasma tele uses twice the electricity of LCD. Cheers lads

Hello Alan,

In my opinion only; Plasma is better than LCD, especially in the larger screen sizes of say 42".

I have a 22" LCD in the bedroom which is great for the small size but sometimes the picture blurrs or "pixellates" during fast or action footage but it is still canny and with LCD's being lighter than Plasma's it is easier to wall mount.

In the living room I have a 42" plasma which I'm very happy with and the picture is better than the LCD.

The best picture quality is HD1080i or HD1080p but the prices will also reflect this, also you'll pay more depending on how many scart sockets it has, important if you have a lot of dvd players or recorders to connect. If you're going to connect a new top end reciever or dvd player then you're also looking for a HDMI socket.

Touch the screen of a Plasma and you'll notice that it runs warmer than an LCD and as such it uses more power but I'm told that this is marginal and still less than a convential CRT display.

I used to work for a large TV manufacturer but the increasing popularity and reducing costs of Plasma/LCD display's meant I was made redundant about 4 year ago, I'm a little bit bitter about it even now but not in a "schitzo serial killer" way.

John Lewis are good.

Regards Ian.
