The best bait clip

Hi everybody, what is the best bait clip for you?.I mean reliable during flight and also when lead hits the water.I'll appreciate your opinions.
Richard

i cant fault impact shields, even with 3 hooks clipped into it.

i've used thousands over the years but like anything you will got the odd cast that doesnt release properly but thats not always down to the clip.

Imps fantastic for general fishing but I find they release mid cast when using big bulky baits so all my rigs with 4/0 or bigger carry impact shields. I also like impact and splash down leads.

big baits i find impact shields best

smaller baits imps my prefered

and on a southerley wind no bait clip as always have problems with all clips not releasing.

when i say they dont realease on a southerley wind this is when it is a side wide when i fish off the beach, dosnt happen on a north wind as i usualy give the beaches a miss then swells tend to get too big.

Yes, I know the panel pins different sizes (I use them for rotten bottom rigs)

Now, what about the Alpha Bait Clips or the Mustad adjustable bait clips, have any of you ever tried them? .Richard

Sorry Sean,I think you're a little confused. We're talking about the bait clips. They hold the baited hook close to the mainline during flight and release when it hits the water.Richard

hi excuse the pun if you dont mind but to hit the nail on the head.

over the years i have used various methods of tethering the bait behind lead in oreder to protect bait and help with distance ,one method when starting off was to use pva tape this melted in water but a hassle on rainy days or runny baits.

by far and imo and unless you are using realy big baits and leads 8ounces plus the imps are the only ones to use.

I find those outcast leads with the OTG clip to be the best, they always release. Though most cases if a clip doesn't release its the anglers fault, too much bait covering the bend of hook or snood too short etc.
