the demon cigarettes

Hi lads and to billyturbot in paticular, this is a spectacular method ive used in the past to get a weekend away fishing,it requires a cunning forward thinking plan.firstly the week end before you go away(having checked tides booked boats or have the beach gear ready) you do this:D
1)cancel the bingo at the social club on the saturday night, buy some swanky white wine(at least a£5.99 bottle)and splash on some brut and announce to your lass im cooking tonight:D
2)goto the supermarket get two rainbow trout from the fish counter, get some, rosemary, thyme(plants if you can)they keep champion in the garden or on a windowsill, buy a lemon, heat your oven to 220 bung some herbs in the gut cavity along with some lemon, bung it in a baking dish, slice more lemon a splash of olive oil rock salt and black pepper turn halfway through after ten minutes,5 mins later the jobs a good un,serve with whatever you want, new potatoes brocolli carrots etc the same also works with small coalie, salmon, cod etc
3)tell your lass your going fishing next weekend and this is what she can expect if you get a weekend pass for fresh fish next week, because your now a fisherman/healthy eating provider, ands its for my health etc etc
4)emphasise it is exercise after all,and you pet can watch x factor/reality show without me being under your feet
5)when that plan backfires stick two ragworms up your nose and wander home early monday morning before the graft, looking windswept and interesting, she will then buy you a tent
6)im going to put something on the site on how to cook the stuff we catch, just got to get time to doit:Dcheers chris

Chris, this thread is real good reading mate :) many thanks :) (good luck on the smokes)
I think the input yourself and several others could give on cooking our catches would be invaluble ..... .. If in fact there's a moderator looking in with sufficient permissions to create an area I think we should have a directory for "Cooking Your Catch" ....... not that I could add anything myself, but I know I'd try a few ideas, however I certainly do know a few who would also contribute.... :D :D
It could work out as a few good threads .... (and meals :) )

Many Thanks

norm

CHRIS class that read ,thing is mate its a waste of time doing two trout and a good bottle of wine ,rather have a can of bodds and a bit cod and not answer to woman ,single mate love it
fishing reel serviced on living room table
cod kept in the bath
along with waders hanging from shower rail
rod rack on bedroom wall
and billy the bass singing when you ring the door bell
making weights on the cooker
and living in my bib and braces, survival jacket in the winter
peeler in the fridge with the worms and salad
sea angler mags under the bed
and my BODDS of course
and best of all fishing without the hassle of a WOMAN

Great thread Chris, well done on packing in, done it 5yrs ago, it gets better day by day and you will always like the smell of the tobacco when you catch it on the wind or passing a bus stop, but be brave and resist, the craving is only a temporary thing. not even a minuet and it's gone. soon you will wonder why you took so long to pack in.
Good idea Norman on the seafood recipes, just need a mod to sticky it.

Good luck on your round the country fishing adventure Chris, maybee you could do it for a charity and get sponsored, say for each fish caught, or a species list and each fish worth a donation.
all the best :)

lucky git,got kicked round the house the other day by she who must be obeyed for putting peelers into the fridge in the house,no amount of explaining that i am waiting for my bait fridge to be delivered, the ambient temperatures peelers need to be kept at to bring them to perfection, the market value of crabs would cut any ice they spent two days camping out in the shed:mad: ive just had a new kitchen and conservatory built, can someone please tell me what is wrong with making jiggers and weights on the new hob in the new kitchen:confused:i spent the next two days camping in the shed with the crabs:D

lol
when I was married I had a cracking shed complete with a fridge for the BODDS and freezer for my crab and lug ,stove for making weights and a comfy chair (from a dentists) when I left I told the wife she could have the house, car, and the kids, but not my shed and contents ,what did she do turn the freezer off and the fridge ,lucky in a way lost about £500 worth of bait but there were no cans in the fridge, she wanted half the shed ,so I put the chain saw trough it along with the sofa ,chest of draws, wardrobe, that will teach her for messing with my freezer

living with our lass the pros and cons

living with our lass the pros and cons

pro our lass
1) i got a new shed to store my stuff in,along with abait fridge, gas ring, beer fridge and a cubby hole to hide my magazines in(not them ones)my sea anglers
2)she smells better than most blokes
3)on the whole she doesnt nick my clothes or trys to wear my waders(there was an incident last year when my waders moved from one room to another of there own accord,im still suspcious about that)
4)she is pretty good at digging a bait trench while i give helpful advice
con our lass
1)i got the shed, she got a new kitchen and conservatory,i ended up about £19000 down on the deal(what do i need a conservatory for)
2)no matter how much i try to explain what a muppet actualy does,or a sidewinder shad does actually catch fish she says"fish must be stupid"its like trying to explain the offside rule but not as much fun
3)SHE EMBARRESES ME IN FRONT OF THE LADS,on her first ever boat trip out of st abbs a couple of weeks ago she won the sweepstake two days on the trot first day a beatiful cod of seven and a half pound, second day a cod of eight and a half pound, all caught on cooked prawn and peeler cocktails,a three way swivel a 6oz lead and a 6/o hook on a paternoster she tied herself,we were trying everyhing, hokkais, shads, muppets, pirks, plenty of coales and mackerel but bugger all cod
4)she said to me"I TOLD YOU FISH ARENT STUPID,I WAS THINKING LIKE A FISH,IF IT WAS ME I WOULD QUITE LIKE APRAWN AND CRAB SALAD"funnily enough we dont talk about the trip much:eek:

one for davey blanked again

one for davey blanked again

Hi lads blanked again is having a bit of bother at the minute and loves his spicey food, the pesky medical proffesion have told him to cut out all the stuff
he loves to eat,hes not ready to retire his waders yet,and still has a good thirty years of loseing jiggers on the wreck and leads in the kelp, this is about as fat free as it can get,is wheat free, has no salt and is actually good for reducing cholestrol and unplugging the arterys(you dont see many fat indian blokes do you)for an initial outlay on spices of about £15 youll have enough home made curry powder for 30 portions and it keeps champion in the cupboard, ive been using this method for twenty years and must of cooked 10,000 portions
1)dont be afraid by the big supermarket thing(i just pretend its a tackle shop)
2)goto the spice section, either buy the following in the glass bottles or the refill packs dried coriander, dried cumin, garam marsala, chilli powder, cayenne pepper, ginger powder, turmeric, garlic powder, dried sage
3)be a bit sneaky and buy some cooked king prawns they work champion for baiting hokkais with, the cod can sometimes go daft on them
4)a container it goes like this 6 tablespoons coriander,6tsp cumin,6tsp garam marsala,2tsp chilli powder,2tsp cayyene pepper,6tspginger powder,6 tsp turmeric,4tsp garlic powder,2tsp dried sage, mix it all up and then your ready, that will give you the 25 to thirty portions of the curry powder
5)you will have to experiment with the amount of curry powder i usualy put in i tablespoon of the mix per person,if you want it hotter just add more
6)the big heaty thing usually found in the kitchen needs to be lit or turned on(just think your melting lead for 6oz weights,it helps)
7)the curry world is now your lobster a few suggestions on a new thread in aminute:D:D

Cheers for that Chris
I will prepare the list for the wife's next big shop:)
Looking forward to this "food" thread already as i'm sure a lot of the lads on here are.
Great work and shows how forums like this can be a cause for good.
Thanks again
Davy

curry

curry

1)for four portions it freezes champion take it out in the morning zap it in the microwave 5mins job done
2)try and use a wok if you can or a pan with a thin bottom it helps the cooking temperature to remain high and retains the flavour
3)chicken breasts thinly cubed or sliced and whacked in the pan keep on stiring it for three minutes and whack it on some kitchen towel, uou notice there is no oil
4)2 onions finally chopped,3 garlic cloves finally chopped, and a really finally chopped carrot(if you like the taste of celery finely chop a stick)this is called
a tricolore and is the basis of most cooking
5)bung it all in the pan until the garlic and onion become see through,if you want it a bit more spicey addsome chilli, scotch bonnets are the best, bung inthe curry powder(turn on the big sucky thing that is the extractor hood)
6)add enough chicken stock to make the mixture wet(a stock cube is fine but try and go for one with reduced salt)add the chicken
7)let it bubble for a bit(about the same time you would wait to change bait for)
8)for a bit of a lemon kick add freshly chopped coriander, and tamarind paste

if it appears to be a bit runny get this product from the supermarket mcdougalls thickening granules it is made from potato starch has no taste and more importantly is gluten free which is good if youve got tightening arterys or problems pointing the bum at the big bowl
9)dont worry about cooking fresh rice in a pan,get the microwaveable stuff its now an excellent product job done

the above curry powder is your base,if you want something a bit fruity follow the above but add sliced pears or apples when your frying off the onions, towards the end add mango chutney,if you want a rogan josh use lamb
instead of chicken but bung in some tomato puree a tin of tomatoes and a bit of sweet chilli, the same with beef,as long as youve got the basic curry powder you can muck about and create your own stuff:D
the best meal ive had in ages was cooked by our lass, fresh mackerel literllay just off the boat caught by us,in an oven dish under the grill a bit of olive oil
the curry powder on it with a bit of paprika 10 minutes with sliced limes lovely
this isnt just for blanked again any of you lads finding it useful get on the thread,im sure weve all got some great recipes:yltype:

Good luck with quiting Chris its easier than people make out, I quit in November last year 11-11-11 to be precise and no it wasn't pre planned to quit that date. It just so happened my appointment with the cessation fell on that date lol, but yeah I found it really easy and that was after 23years as a heavy smoker.

Hope you're ok Davey (Blanked again) mate, not good suffering health problems especially from smoking. I'm a chef myself and will say its common sense when it comes to healthy eating and apart from the usual eat more fruit and veg and less fatty foods, the most important part is portion size. :)

our lass

Hi lads, the big whisky bottle contained £102 this week,i was wavering at about 8 o clock after a pig of a day,she counted out the wedge in the bottle and made me look at it,gave me the credit card, said get on ebay youve got £200 quid to spend, buy some fishing gear make yourself happy and dont smoke, its funny how them bloody cravings stop when your looking at an auction bid for some shads, cheers, keep the faith like i have,by the way have any of you wasacks given up smoking with me:yltype:

Good on ya Chris hat off to ya, I done the same 14 years ago was on 40 per day and the money ad saved in bottle paid for 2 weeks all inclusive in Spain for me n family so really hope it works out for you.
I personally can't understand why I used to smoke now - cash up in smoke n killing your self it all seams pointless now.
I used to say "but I enjoy smoking" lol I enjoy being stopped even more
Well done mate
