9ft lure/spinning rod with braid and a Zenith Silver Minnow 28g spinner which are one of the best spinners out there mate they cast far and catch well.


Foul hooked counted last year and it's still rod and line so works for me :)

I honestly don't mean any disrespect to anyone but am sorry this ain't for me. My opinions are that foul hooked fish are just that " a foul" a fluke, you will never know if your fishing skill actually fooled that particular fish into taking your lure.
So for these reasons ill opt out of the challenge, thanks guys & good luck ;-)

That's a shame, i did count foul hooked fish last year, and i don't think it would be right to change the rules mid challenge, maybe I'll look at changing it for next year. I hope you'll still post your reports and offer you opinions and advice on the site even if your not partaking in the challenge.

Maybe you could add a dummy to your list of fish and foul hooked lip hooked whats the difference? Both just caught his lure was in the right place at the right time

Hey it's only a bit of fun, but honestly allowing foul hooked fish, is that what's its come to ? Your only kidding yourself if you really do believe that you actually caught it, no different to snatching salmon with a pair of big trebles IMO.
As a lure angler I want to fool the fish into taking a artificial lure, I personally don't want to use them as a gaff. Fish don't have hands to touch & feel so even if there inquisitive they will use there mouth to do this.
This is only my views & opinions , nothing against any individual so please don't take it personally. ;-)
Get jigging pirks down the side of the pier for the lure caught / belly caught lumpsucker lol & in the marinas for a mullet;-)

Well said that man,I totally agree with this post,if you kept a foul hooked salmon,you'd be kicked out of any self respecting club and that's a fact.
 
Foul hooked fish on a lure how can they possibly count? For a fish to be lure caught it mist have attacked the lure and be mouth caught..was thinking of joining the lure challenge but not with foul hooked fish allowed..its a joke
 
Got to agree with bassboyo , foul hooked fish shouldn't count it's not sporting. I would like see you finish the challenge this year it's been good watching your speicies list grow. And if the rules don't get changed next year bow out .

Gents,

We will take on board everything that has been said for next year. When we started the Challenge the rules were kept as simple as possible, go out and catch fish with lure and post a picture. The idea was to encourage people to get out fishing with lures and to try and get something other that Mackerel and Pollock, the fish most people in the North East tend to target, the Challenge was more about challenging our perception of what it was possible to catch on a lure. The rules are by no means fixed and we have changed them over the past years, adding a card and including freshwater fish.
 
Lads sorry to have caused such a fuss. I will happily withdraw my Launce if you want so the "no foul hooked" rule can be part of this years challenge. I am sure I will get another one over the summer by more legitamate means :)

Your quite right, I to was invited to NESA to promote lure fishing & I think you will agree I have surprised a few at what species can be caught. However for NESA to make a statement that they agree with foul hooking , snatching, or any other illegal method and it is a welcomed practice in there competitions just sends out the wrong message to the wider angling community.
Promote lure fishing yes, but promoting in this way is a big no!
Any self respecting lure angler , any angler should know what is "fairly" caught, if its not its illegal.
Lets have some comments from club chairmans to see if they will allow it ?
Let DEFA know this practice is happening & get there views ?
Let it be known on WSF , TLF that NESA condones foul hooking of fish ?

Can you explain to me how it is illegal to accidentally foul hook a fish?
May i also say that i am not NESA i am simply a member of this forum, if it turns out that what I'm doing is actually illegal, then i will swiftly change the rules.

Illegal method of catching fish is not foul hooked you can catch a fish anyway you like and land it and keep it if its sized or permited to do so the lads who run the lure fishing do a great job there are not just on here for bragging rights
