This Season

Having only started fishing again in earnest this season can some of the regulars give us your thoughts on this season's fishing.
I have just gone 4 sessions ( 17hrs) not only not catching a fish but not even getting a bite and bait coming back untouched which is getting dispiriting. In all my time angling this is the longest I have gone without catching something. Other than tonight, I have been with other anglers - mates and strangers who are getting same results so it isn't just my angling skills at fault. I have tried various baits, cocktails and rigs still nothing.
IS THIS NORMAL ???
Going to Morrisons tomorrow to see what a fish looks like.

Hi gerry
Like you started again this season in earnest, and with the same results that caused me to stop a long time ago.
It was gill netters then, and i think it's the abuse of these nets thats causing the majority of the problems today. Over 2 weeks of perfect seas and just look at the shore caught results.
Just remember at morrisons not to drool to much.:)

Blyth beach, middle toilets high and low tide, once again more than 3 occasions
Blyth beach, sluice breakwater, bottom toilets and the sumps high and low tide.
St Marys prom high tide.
Going to fish King Eddy's on Saturday so be aware during the comp.

Hi Gerry.

Over the past few months i have fished all over from shields to sunderland.this season is the worse season i have had in 30 years.

season total 12 codling biggest 2lb 12oz.

i have seen some large cod, but i have also seen boats putting gill nets out,one report i heard yesterday at shields from a local was, one boat have 3boxes of cod plus 2 bass out of his nets off shields.

When the fishing is poor what i do is change my trace to small hooks with small baits and fish closer in, I nearly always get some small fish normally coalies or flatties.I do this so i do not blank.

It's true in the saying that 10% Anglers catch 90% of the fish.

This season has been really good North of the Tyne. Plenty of good bags of fish have come out. Mostly beween 1-3lb. Ok, it can be hitty missy at times but its called fishing not catching isn't it. Just look at the results of the recent whitley evening open when conditions are right and In January.

Try whitley/Blyth beach mate. Look for the black water. The best fishing has gone now though, it's usually really good in Sept and October when theres a decent sea running but will fish now.

I noticed u keep fishing King Eddies bay, personally a mark i don't normally consider. Tynemouth beach is a much better option IMO. Loads of marks on the beach that fish in decent/different conditions.

Good luck. Any advice just PM.

Peter.

Fishing has been superb for some!

My mate has almost 60lb on the club weight sheet since January this year. The best he has ever had, so who said there were no fish?

Newbiggin area is the most consistent but as Peter says 90% of fish are caught by 10% of anglers. I personally would make this 95% / 5%. It really is the case these days. You need everything to be spot on to catch.

You are not going to catch fish on a small tide/wrong state of tide, in the wrong place with the wrong bait. Its even worse for the inexperienced angler who struggles to cast and whose bait presentation leaves a lot to be desired.

Join a club or tag along with a good angler. It really is the only way. Magazines and internet can only confuse you.

Couldn't agree with you more, I used to fish with Whitley Bay AC about 20 years ago and learnt a lot about fishing and local marks with the more experienced anglers in the club.
Guess I most have forgotten most of what I learn't.
Hampered now because I generally fish alone, which counts out some of the marks i used to fish.
Still even with my lack of fish, I enjoy angling, the fresh air and the expectation of what might sniffing around my bait.
