To check tyres or not to check tyres....that is the question

some peolple i know used to sit and watch the tide drop off and come back over their tyres :o so i would just do them and laugh at them shoutin and ballin, they never actually aproached me though
no one owns nothing below the high tide mark and while i appreciate the effort in setting tyres if you cant be bothered to turn up and do them then they are and always will be fair game.
luckly i know decent folk who understand and dont mind this to an extent unless of course they are on the fiddle, as already stated.
one of the blokes who used to watch over his got caught making a living off them while being on incapacity benifits etc etc.
i cant stand fiddling scum

Well, having read all comments relating to the original question I posted and those which weren't, I think it's clear to say there is mixed opinions. Like I say, I am relatively new to sea fishing and NESA so wasn't aware of the "search old thread" option so thank you for pointing that out as well and I will look there for other opinions from the past regarding tyres. I am gusessing some of the respondents to this thread will appear on old threads probably saying the same kind of thing.

Happy crabbing everyone!!!!!

next time you boys buy some crabs from the tackle shops remember to ask if the supplier is not on the fiddle who supplied them same as your worms you,s would be goosed and no i,m not on the fiddle

for some how i dont think a tyre wud fit up anyones bum ,effing crab wars every year same old sh!t some people post :D

never posted for a while crab wars ARE GREAT you should not trouch whats not yours IT TAKES A LOT AND TIME AND EFFORT TO PUT TYRES OUT AND COLLECT CRABS,CRABS ARE WORTH MONEY SO WHAT every thing cost money fiddlers ha ha no body is fiddleing when your doing your hobby something you love ha ha ha ha

what you have to remeber is that tyres stop the crab going into the natural habitats they normally would go where they where avaiable for all, whereas those that put tyres out think all the crabs are theirs, they are not, the tyres are but the crabs are not. And before you ask I had quite a few tyres both in the Tyne and Blyth, if anybody did them when I wasn't there that was their good luck. And the only reason I put tyres down was to make sure I got a few crab, if I hadn't there where no crab in the places I had got an ample supply for many years, as did my uncles and grandfather.

can totally see why people would be protective over there tyres, with all the effort they put in and the possible rewards that can be gained both financially and to there fishing, but with respect to that court case how many tyres does one angler need to put out, and how many does some need to put out to make money be that officially or to supplement a rockafella lifestyle while on the dole.

Also at which point do we have to say that we don't want the coastline looking like a scrap yard.

i would not touch anyones tyres , its a lot off hard work for the lads who put them down and keep them clean ;)but what i would do is go down at low water and ask the lad if he would sell me some cheaper ;):D

Hi,

I am wondering what the rules are regarding tyres. I genuinley don't know being fairly new to sea fishing, and am just after some clarity regarding the issue as so to not get myself into any bother. Is it simply:

a) Don't check them if they are not yours, leave well alone....

or

b) If there is no one at the location checking them at the same time as you, go ahead and check them and if the owner then turns up leave the rest alone for them to the do?

I can undertand the owners of tyres mostly saying a) but if an owner isn't there to check them would it cause a lot of bother if someone resorted to b) and what are the reasons why.

I am only looking to collect enough fresh crabs for a session here and there in the quickest possible time and am not looking to be greedy collecting far more than I would ever use. Up to now I look under rocks and in rock pools but like I say was just wondering about the tyre situation.

Dandin1o.

why don't you go one better mate, put your own tyres out somewhere ;) just a thought :)
