Trouble Parking

We've decided to moor the lass Pansy elsewhere - St. Peters. A response to an unnecessary e-mail from another well known marina has been composed (see below) Matters haven't been helped by the actions of a third party who's snakey actions may have scuppered our plans to stay in said marina anyway - cheers mate.

"Pansy is the last boat in her class still afloat, she has survived 70 years, skippered by brave working men fishing the North Sea to put food on families tables for generations, she is a supreme example of our sailing heritage and history. Her design tested and proven in some of the harshest sea conditions on the planet. She has been cared for by a succession of owners prepared to spend time, money and honest sweat to keep her afloat. Her arrival in port has prompted newspaper articles welcoming her in. The register of historic ships has deemed her fit to be listed alongside other shining examples of our illustrious maritime past and are keen to assist in her continued survival. We realise that the paint job and the wood underneath may prove offensive to the bloated gin swilling ignoramuses that frequent your floating static caravan park and can only apologise. Seeing a boat leaving the lock and returning home on a regular basis may be a painful reminder to them of the fact that they've never unfurled a sail for 9 years and that can cut a man wearing £90 deck shoes to the quick. We are more than happy to free up a couple of extra parking spaces for your valued clients and spend our money a little further down the way, where we have been invited in with understanding, open arms and offers of support in our continuing efforts to return this beautiful vessel to her former glory."

Kind regards

"Pikey's Afloat"

thats us that is, it was an Arthur Ransome title I believe, the follow up to swallows and amazons and Coot club If I remember rightly

from my perspective, the line that cut me the most in their reply, following our RQ interrogation was, "Only once I am happy with the overall presentation could she go on a pontoon"

to be honest, I'm quite looking forward to being up river, the beers better, which is far more important, and it'll cost a lot less than the 3 grand we were going to be fleeced for, maybe I should have a quick word with me dad to go and haunt them before we send him up the chimney next week

We'd pretty much decided on St. Pete's before the patronising e-mail and fellow forum member's dicking about - cheaper, liveaboard encouraged and moored next to two beautifully restored fishing boats - "Favourite" from Seahouses WOW :) Hopefully the restoration guys will be able to help us out with invaluable experience and information - unless mark ****es them off with his lardy dah ways and long hair :D

Note to self:

buy large coil of wire to fit round charlie's head to energise electromagnet

Coils of wire don't energise electromagnets and I also have coils of other things round my head at the moment - like smoke , fronds of seaweed and those ghostly headbands angels or chubby babbys wear in the posh paintings

Don't know how much of this is down to other 'situations' but it has felt a bit like the spanish inquisition, what are our intentions, what will she look like , when this and where that, the survey we have was dismissed as 'not relevant', etc. He never said as much but the overall impression is one of 'We don't want the likes of you in here spoiling the view for all the yachts'

Mark that's not professional of them at all ,I don't know any of them but it doesn't seem to be the right way to run the place at all , as mentioned earlier your third party hasn't helped at all eh !

What about hartlepool marina Mark, i know its a bit further away but at least they have a lot more on the doorstep than royal quays, and not goverened by tides like st peters

Hartlepool

Hartlepool

Hi Mark

i am in hartlepool marina and cant fault it and its nearly two thirds cheaper than the royal quays and no silly questions about your boat you pays your money and your in

also the only time that you canot get out is 1 hour either side of low water and possibly 1.5 on the big springs

looked at a boat in hartlepool as it happens, 'Chary' the one that has subsequently sunk!!

done the deal now, its St pete's for us, in and out a couple of hours either side of Hi water, no lock, just straight through, but there's a big waiting pontoon outside if we can't get in
