When I was at college during the 70's we used to have a weekly sweep on the race - winner takes all the money If you got Dick Dastardly you knew you hadn't won that week

I do remember Fireball XL5 and am so sad as I can even remember some of the them tune " I wish I was a spaceman............,etc" but I can't remember the name of the monkey.
