Going to take my girl friends nephew fishing in the Tyne he's 5yr old were should I take him to catch his first fish just up river somewhere

I take my son (whos also 5) to Spillers Quay in Byker.

I also take his scooter and Nintendo DS incase he starts 'working' his ticket as there is nowt worse than when youve just set up and he starts saying that he's bored or wants to go home.

Carpthone hotel ate take my 3 year old always caches about 10-15 fish

Try the wansbeck just up from the slipway you can fish from the bank and not worry about him climbing on railings or getting to close to the edge. Used to take my neighbour and his 2 kids there had some canny size flats there on crab baits, short lobs a couple of hrs either side of high short lobs

Jarra park is easy to get to and easy to fish , small hooks 1/2 a rag and tip with a fingernail of mackerel , there's also a skateboard park 5 yards away from where ya fish if boredom sets in , plenty whiting and flats being caught with a bonus codling possible
