Tynemouth Pier....PB 8lb 2oz

Didn't mean to fish the pier. Was just using up bait from the disastrous BOTAC comp last night. Started fannying about at Tynemouth and then the Haven but went onto the pier at LW and used up the last of my tatty rag and mackerel.

Don't wanna sound ungrateful for a lush fish, but it was foul-hooked in the gills and was like a bundle of weed to haul in (probably sniffed at my bait and thought better of it but got tangled up). Anyway, it was all a bit of an anti-climax. But big thank you to the lad who helped hand-ball it up the stairs cos I was fishing without a leader after a snag. He had an even bigger one. I left soon after but reckon there could be a few pigs on the pier tonight.

8lb 2oz smashes my personal best by a mile (just wish i could have caught it 'properly' of the shore). Still pretty chuffed though.

Cheers, Ross:)

Well done on ur pb mate a was on the end the night aswel a saw all the commotion.there was a few couple ov pounders caught and a lad had another 8 pounder.congrats again!

Not exactly safe as houses in big seas, any youngster reading that garbage pls proceed with great care or better dont go on at all!

well done ross nice fish afterthursdays wind swept night, you have 11 pound to pick up names went into hat and you and glen came out. the pier is not the best place for youngsters at night there are no railings like s/s pier and at times can be very slippy near the edge. davy.

Well said, lads. Your quite right. The pier's not safe in heavy seas. As all the other lads who were on there will agree, it was safe and very sheltered on there last night. I would never even think of going on in rough conditions. And i would not be happy with my wee lad trying to do it. However, as an adult, when the sea is not coming over, I - very occasionally - go on... It was a lot safer than rock marks last night. (Safe as houses was a bad way to describe it, tho;))

Davy, thanks for that post, mate. I'm not going to be around for a few weeks now - going south for xmas! Hopefully catch yer in the new year though. Merry xmas:) Cheers, R
