THAT\'S what it boils down to Alan......insurance.

Having said that, mind......I think it\'s only certain clubs that are allowed to fish the pier, anyway.....might be wrong on that

Insurance and \"restricted\" clubs aside, I doubt the PTA would recognise NESA as a \"club\".

To qualify as a \"club\" you need to go through all the \"proper\" channels.....have an elected Committe, pay subs, have an AGM.....etc........NOT really what NESA\'s about.
 
im sure at some point tony with a little arm twisting they may allow a one off for charity ,afterall it would show them up in a good light as well as NESA
 
I wouldn\'t bank on it Bri.

Without the necessary insurance cover, I doubt THAT would ever happen.....even though it would be a charity event, they would be putting themselves in a vey precarious situation ALLOWING such an event to take place on their property WITHOUT insurance cover.
 
There is no fishing on the top level of tynemouth pier so someone has made a mistake bri, and you do need insurance to fish the pier so a load of anglers going on the pier with non will end up in a load of claims against the port of tyne. it will never happen
 
I HAVE SPOKE TO THE HARBOUR MASTER AND THERE IS NO FISHING ON THE UPPER LEVEL OF THE NORTH PIER, A MISTAKE WAS MADE IN THE EMAIL TO BRIBONES. IF YOU WISH TO FISH THE PIER JOIN ONE OF THE CLUBS THAT FISH THE LOWER LEVEL ONLY.the harbour master was going to post this message himself but i have posted for him as he is not member
 
While on the subject of the pier anglers who fish the nights on the pier ,have been throwing the lifebelts in the water this is stupid and you are putting lifes at risk. one belt was set fire to help keep someone warm in the doorway of the pier i hope this person never needs a lifebelt in a hurry
 
BILLYB, i have noticed the same thing at shields pier. Life rings chucked in and set alight!
i actuyally caught 1 lad doing it a15-16 he was...... when i asked him why he did it..... he told me to F*CK OFF

......so when he was walking in front of me i gave him a kwik little boot in the ankles LOL the little sh*t fell over.......

HOPE that teached him a lseeon ....... fools who chuck life rings in should fall in themselves and when sum 1 goes 2 save them they is no ring there....... WONDER coz of who?

im not getting into a row over this one i sent an e-mail and got a reply correct or incorrect it seems a case of chiefs and indians here someone is wrong and im awaiting an e-mail from the estate manager on the matter
on the subject of night fishing im not saying i agree or disagree as im enquiring about legal access to the pier but it could be non anglers as well as anglers throwing lifebelts in the water and yes it is stupid and most likely one of the reasons why decent folks cant fish public areas freely
with regards to clubs i dont really want to join a club as your restricted to fishing set dates and venues ,this might suit a lot of people but im not one of them ,i like to fish when i like its just a shame i cant fish where i like as well (over to you billy lol ;) )

I would like to take this opportunity to clear up any confusion and apologise for any inconvenience caused by any information that may have originated from the Port of Tyne Authority.

North Pier (Tynemouth) :

For safety reasons (the protection of the general public) the Authority do not allow fishing from the upper level of the pier.
Use of the North Pier is restricted to bona-fide members of registered Angling Clubs who must provide us with evidence of insurance and who also must adhere to times/dates allocated on a strict rota.
They must also adhere to the opening and closing times of the pier.
Individuals may not fish from the North Pier. They must also adhere to the opening and closing times of the pier.
I believe an amendment to the recent posting on the NESA website (www.nsea.co.uk) is imminent.

sorry bri not shouting just making it big so that there is no mistake .and every body can see it. we clubs have to look after the pier but it is spoilt by anglers who do not give a f*** about rules and regulations. so it was to stop members jumping the gun and running to the pier to get on as this will cause loads of problems. as for club membership longbenton club fish matches but no member is held to set times you can turn up half way through the match if you like or you can fish for a hour and then go home. fishing is to be enjoyed and not a hardship so we take it nice and easy

just spoke to the estate manager Mr Darling over the phone and cleared up any misunderstandings also a 2nd mail from mike Nicholson who has been following the topic and was worried about the watchman getting swamped with avid fishermen

tony if you could snap a padlock on this one please before jonny starts shouting for a petition ;)
 
Would be nice if the members of the Port of Tyne Authority who have been following this thread kept on psting items which they think would be of interest to anglers. i.e. works going on in or around the river, places we should stay away from, events being held, no doubt there would be info we could pass on to them. Hopefully ll for the good of angling along the river.
 
Sorry for being a bit thick but is this the pier at North Shields?

If it is then NESA has fished it thanks to longbenton SAC if I remember rightly back in 2002 when me and Paula had just started sea fishing, we all had a really great day out at met lots of the NESA regulars. Still have a photo from the end of the day when we all gathered together for the prize giving.

Wonderful time, miss the crack, shame about the 800 mile round trip to get there now :(

so that means if we formed a club and got insurance we could fish it .
 
On the earlier subject of being turfed off the pier ....It happened to us a couple of years back on a Sunday afternoon, the security guard was OK about it and just informed us of the regulations etc. Was a lad washed off one night a couple of years back and died of hypothermia after being rescued from what I can remember...Always sticks in my mind when the sea is up, keeps me from risking my neck .
 
Yep, that\'s the one Stuart (although it\'s Tynemouth pier and not North Shields).

NESA bods were allowed to fish that comp because they were guests of the Longbenton and Seatonburn club (who just happened to have that day booked for a comp). I think it was Billy who had to check to see if \"guests\" were covered on the clubs insurance......may be wrong there.

Gary, see my earlier post (in this thread) about being a \"registered\" club.
 
Yes longbenton and seatonburn coverd the insurance for the briony charity match and it is possible it can happen again for the lifeboat appeal , as stew says it was a great day out and we raised plenty of money for the appeal
