Can some one let me know why you cannot fish tynemouth peir but if u a memeber off BOTAC you can fish it sunday morning,.Seems a bit wrong to me ,the port of tyne can open and close ss pier at times why not tynemouth.

I think it's because the clubs pay insurance. It's more than just BOTAC who fish it. Presumably, the Port of Tyne consider the lower level too risky, without railings, to be fished by the public. It's a shame that local anglers couldn't convince the PofT to build a railing and offer to pay for it.
Well worth paying a tiny sub to one of the clubs to fish the pier though. I fished it for one year with Longbenton club 15 years ago and learned loads.

Clubs apply annually to Port of Tyne for permission to fish Tynemouth Pier and their dates are agreed over one year in advance. I am currently the coordinator for all clubs applying to fish Tynemouth Pier. As already said, insurance is a must. Members of clubs are covered by their club's insurance and can only fish the Pier on their respective club dates. Also, and I don't fully understand the difference, I believe Tynemouth is a private pier whereas South Shields is a public one which affects access. Hope this clarifies a couple of things.

So who owns it then ,surely if you could get insurance for yourself you could fish it then.Could we as meembers on here try and get the same access as BOTAC then or other clubs. You cannot fish the top of pier during there matches only the bottom

pier

40-50 years ago iwas told there was radio and marconi equipment on the pier and it was getting damage by anglers so they stopped the fishing i dont know if it is true

There is at the end but still dodgy with any water on bottom level its slippy as hell

the answer is easy ian just join one of the four clubs for a small anual fee and you will be able to fish weekends and learn a lot more from the other anglers . davy.

Good to hear s/s is public, pity it's not open to them much like.

we all no we can join any one of the 4 clubs who use it but what about night fishing from the back wall no handrails required there surely we could get some lee way from being members of this site and serious anglers not the half wits who set fires and such like ,as not many of them like the cold weather

The Duke of Northumberland "owns" Tynemouth pier. When the gates are locked access is tresspassing. There have been a few people swept to their deaths on the pier, and due to our blame culture the Duke/PTA could be held liable should someone injure themselves if the pier were to be used unsupervised
