Upgrading to a multiplier

I'm thinking of buyin a multiplier but not sure on which reel suits the beginner as thers so many out ther can any1 give me any advice on which multiplier is best for starting out with? And how much it would cost? Cheers

You wont go wrong with 525 mag IMO easy to use and cast like dream

all depends mate whats your budget??

I'd go for a 525 mag also mate, yer can make it docile or let it rip depending on how you set it up.

a 525 mag mate like already said you can set it up to suit you. get a decent second hand one of here for around the 70 quid mark.

or a greys g mag 6. for a beginner there spot on for 50 pound new

Its a tournament casting reel and will run very very fast!! Its not designed for hauling in doggies or lumps of weed. I suspect if you used it for actual fishing the gears wouldn't last too long due to the high ratio.

A standard shuttle or 7htmag is the better compromise for a small beach fishing reel. No good in the heavy ground though.

I would spend my money on an old school 525 mag extra, new penn fathom 15 or a saltist 20 or 30bg if heavier line is required.

At the cheaper end theres nothing wrong with slosh 20s or 30s.

if your making the change i.e never used one before buy a cheap second hand reel something like a abu 6500 about 40 quid then once you have lgot to grips with it buy better you might like a multi then ya 300 quid reel is no use to u mate

You may want to start with a reel that has a level wind like a 6500 as laying the line can be a bit tricky. You can always get a CT conversion later once you get used to it.

exactly this, multipliers reel fast and laying the line even is the most important thing , get it wrong and a birdsnest awaits. you can remove most level winds easy enough , no need for conversions etc .

Agree, line lay is important so learn to chuck a one on clean ground so you can reel in at leisure and get used to getting the line back on the spool properly before the frantic retrieve required when fishing snaggy marks. I personally would advise to avoid a level wind, beginner or not.
