upholder,amble

I n response to the complaint about Dave skipper of Upholder I was one of the five onboard Wednesday 8th June, the facts are as Dave has put in his reply I was close to the wheelhouse and able to hear his conversations with the other boats, also on most trips there is always some good banter the guy during the trip complained about not catching fish on every drop as I recall he had about ten cod
As Dave indicated he only took the vessel in tow at the time we would head back to harbour, as for Dave charging £25.00, I’ve been out on Upholder numerous times over the last three years the charge has been £30.00, this year is the first increase.
If the complainant had been out the following day as I was he would not have anything to complain about as on a number of occasions due to tides has stayed out anything up to two hours at no extra charge, also the fishing was not as good and the sea conditions were better.
How many skippers would take a disabled 80 plus year old and to my knowledge twice this year???? I can only say Dave is one of the better skippers that I’ve been out with over many years, and as for rescuing disabled boats I have done so in the past it’s part of being a responsible seafarer.

Dave overbooked my trip a couple of years ago - emailed me to apologise and gave us an extended trip on the rearranged one to make up for it - think if you mailed him to express your concerns instead of bleating on about it on here he'd probably sort something out for you

Fun at sea put yourself in the disabled boats place and needed assistance what would you feel like if davie said no am not taking you in
Haway mate have a bit of respect
And as for £32 i have days on shore cost more than that

The original posters silence speaks volumes and tells us all we need to know about him ! Probably taken up bowling. Good riddance !!

Hes certantly upset a few people on here i hope people still book up with davie though

Cant speak for the skipper in question but have to agree with all others who have responded, Charter skippers have job against the world, no fish - their fault, weather too bad - their fault, weather turns during trip - their fault. These guys deserve medals for the effort they put into giving us the sport we look for, not criticism and bad publicity from a disgruntled idiot (who seems to have disapperared), glad to see so much support for this skipper

i do believe, that there is a legal requirement,if not moral to go to the assistance of another vessel in trouble.did you take up your grievance of payment/fishing area with the skipper, and give him the chance to explain:question:

Yer, I understood this was the case also.

Well said m8,and if these guys owned there own boats thay might understand a little bit more about costs and as for fuel,up up up at the minute, and moorings, insuranse(for 12 people),(checks),(saftey equipment),and as for hard ground the skipper will take you where the fish are,(you don't need to be out 10 or so miles out to catch a big one)Sometimes the wrecks just dont fish so whats the point of being out there burning fuel, the skipper needs to make a living aswell as yourself ,Well done to the skipper and i would do the same and expect the same from any other boat owner out there if in destress...
