Wednesday saw the day start as clear as the Middle East Peace Process - early morning mist turned into full man fog which deteriorated into that all encompassing evening mizzle that leaves you soaked to the skin.

Wind was again off the sea and the water was the colour of soup. The only thing going for us was the tides being big and lots of rive on. The fish were still feeding on the ebb and the flood, the bites dying right off on the top and bottom of the tide.

Surprisingly things started to improve and we caught more fish than previously, the codling averaging about 3lb.

For Thursday' weather see Wednesday - 5 days and yet to see the sun. Today we went to Boddin - at last at home in the tangles and at last the sun arrives.

The fishing was good - about 10 fish today and more on the Friday. The quality improved as well with fish up to 6lb plus a wrasse.

Overall a good week considering, shame we couldn't get out and about but safety first. Completely different to the year previous - just proves we're at the mercy of the weather.

jUst out of interest, it looks like you use older gear, how does it hold up to the rough ground?

Older gear is about 40 years old Karl. To put it in perspective Rod and I caught about the same number of fish over the week.....fishing the rough ground I probably outfished him 4 to 1.

Nice fishing there. Again, out of interest, what make is that rod of yours?

Nice report David & some good fishing by the looks of it. I've never fished Boddin before but it looks like a cracking mark.

On the subject of your gear, did you ever manage to get your reel-seat repaired or replaced? I'm on the lookout for a new tip-ring for my rod - they don't make a 10mm bore ring these days! The wire cage came away from the ring & I've managed to glue it back together, but I don't know how long it'll hold.

Gary :)

Hi Gary - yes I fixed the reel seat - 2 bulldog clips lol. Not the most attractive horse in the parade ring but it does the job. As for your top ring - ID have a box full hidden away. If they haven't any I've a spare at Rods in Kenton. Just let me know.
