Usan 2021

Spent last week in Montrose fishing around Usan with Rod. Weather was good but there was a nagging roll on every day from a persistent northerly wind. Managed one tide fishing Boddin Point and we managed to get some codling up to about 7lb. Best fish from the Black Rock was about 5lb and there were lots of mackerel and coalies on the lures. Stayed in the South Esk hotel in Montrose and would recommend it as an ideal fishing base. Some photos from the week:

Nice report to read there, canny little trip it seems.

Those pics are brilliant, the mark looks great and the pic of the baskets, rod and fish is an absolute cracker !

Love it !

Just watched a video of a father son from Scarborough (Paul and David Medd) the father was using a great Scarborough reel on the end of Filey Brigg, he only changed to a fixed spool as he had to get some extra distance to find a fine.

It was great watching him back casting it……

Look forward to the next report…

Tight lines buddy…

Great report Dave,, the area looks ideal, does it fish right through the summer. Quality photo baskets and split cane , tremendous . Might look to have a week next year. Thanks Dave.John.

Hi John,
Thanks for the reply. The split cane is in fact fibre glass. Over the years we’ve been up in June, July and August and caught in all three. In the winter conditions have to be spot on but we’ve had fish in all sorts of weather in the summer. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it should you get there.

Another good week for yous 2.
some nice fish caught aswell.
ps,so what baits fished the best David, was it mussels+ crab.
??. or just plain mussels.

Hi Reg,
We only ever take frozen crab and mussels and we collect some fresh crab if available. Funnily enough the frozen crab outfished everything else with, or without mussel . Still love turning those rocks over mind you.

A mate and I have a two week trip planned for autumn next year. a week driving up the west coast, then a week driving down the east coast. We may add in an extra week on the islands, have to see how it goes.
