I had a short session at the Walkway at Shields this morning 1am until 3.30am. It was pleasantly still and the water was flat as a pancake but full of loads of rubbish and weed. I was pulling in weed every chuck and managed to snag my line on a floating log and lose my gear at one point - not sure if it was a tree or a telegraph pole but it was big. Anyway I was the only one there at this early hour (who needs sleep anyway:D) so it was a lovely relaxing couple of hours. I caught six whiting and lost a seventh on the retrieve. They ranged in size from 29cm to 39cm the smallest one having quite a stocky body shape which made me thing it might be something else until I saw all those sharp pointy teeth :mad2: grrr. I kept the 39cm one for breakfast and the others were all returned.

Cracking report and pics Mike, it was the same for the kids yesterday they mention the weed and logs catching them so it must of stayed with it being so flat. Waiting for them to put there report up but I can say it involves a doggy, there is some big whiting this year aint there.

Good report and pics mate not a bad few hours, if I was going fishing that time of night the wife might get a bit suspicious :)

Thats what they say about the little codling that show every spring, "there just under size, they'll be size by the winter" never happens though

Cheers lads. Yeah I love early morning or late night sessions always very productive and usually being the only one there you can fish the best marks.
