just got this off Northern england Springer Spanile Rescue site

This was posted on Facebook last night....

URGENT! This has just happened. A lady was walking her dog on South Beach Field, Blyth. The dog saw a bread bun on the ground and ate it before she could get to her. Within seconds the dog was dead. One of my customers helped her get the dog home. This is definitely poison. Please be aware and please tell anyone you know who walks there regularly, like for the school run etc to keep away. Police are involved.
 
Thats the problem lads.. Even if the sick culprit(s) are caught what happens... Nowt! Wonder how the minds of people who do stuff like work.. Obviosly retarded! :thumbdown:
 
Seen the same thing happen to a dog when I was out at a campsite...dead within 15 minutes it was, 10 of those minutes spent paralyszed
 
Alan, have you confirmed any of this? Given that this was from a "Facebook" post it makes me dubious.

I've had dogs since I was a kid, got 2 border collies now and many other pets, so if it's true then I'm saddened, outraged and disgusted. But it doesn't ring as true to me.

As soon as the word "Facebook" comes into it, then I become suspicious and this isn't the first time this sort of story has gone around Facebook - along with the rumour that people were putting stickers on houses and garden gates to identify where to steal dogs from for dog fighting (snopes - originated in Australia and was found to be false there plus it was just a stupid concept!).

I've got some pretty bad tarantula's among my collection of about 200, one put me in hospital for 3 days and in pain/cramping for over a fortnight, there are some that are particularly dangerous to dogs for some reason. Some of the Australian species are not fatal to humans but to dogs they are (Selenocosmia and Phlogiellus species), studies have listed venomation to death of a dog in a couple of hours. Given that this is direct to the bloodstream rather than something ingested (which would take time to enter the bloodstream), is the reason I find this story dubious.

As I say, if true, my heart goes out to the owner and the dog, but it does sound too much like another Facebook viral rumour.
 
this is not just the south beach area of blyth, but all over the place. my dog was poisoned, 4 day`s in the vet's. they said had she not been so big she would`nt have pulled through.
they are aware of this and are investigating, there are dog`s which have died.
