Hey lads got a phone call at work today. One of the lads in the national police boat angling championship is unavailable from the 4 man team so my old mate Dave Lyall the sea fishing club secretary at work asked if i wanted to go.
Checked with her indoors and its A-O-K.
We go on Mon 8th Oct and the competition is on Wed 10th Oct.
Presentation night on the same night by the chief constable of Dorset police.
Return home on the 11th Oct.
Its times like this that my faith is restored.:)

Dave reckons the fishing down south is different to up here. Hounds and Skate are the order of the day with worm baits.
Lets see if i can get a PB.

Mick.

Popped into Alans (amh)Annfield Plain angling today for some new gear.

Bought Daiwa boat rod 12-20lb and a Diawa boat reel with depth counter.
Loaded with 30lb braid.(the good stuff).I havebeen wanting something like this for ages and the competition has spurred me on
Alan also set up some lovely rigs for me from his own collection.
4 X 3 hook combos and a nice tope set up.
Total price £120.

I have my other stuff as well Fladen boat rod 30-40 lb class and multiplyer loaded with 50 mono for any Tope or Conger.

little strips of squid for the black bream

i went with a load of coppers a few years back
we had a great time

I'm a freshman to the sport so not expecting to get anywhere.

Well done mick,

If you think you will after tope I could send you a trace or two. Frankly the majority of the shop bought ones are not up to much. The Greys ones have the wire TIED direct to the nylon for example.

Recently got an invite to go on a shark survey a bit further afeild next june which has me a bit excited...its nice to fish somewhere different.

Cheers
Dave.

Thanks Dave i live in Blackhill Consett so if you are local i can pop round yours tomorrow. If you pm me i will try and make it. I am nights tonight and tomorrow and hope to get away bit early on Sun about 1 in the morning and grab a few hours before we set off.
Me and my my mate Dave are playing turn eaches to drive the minibus down.

Best of luck Mick, fishing against those southern softies should be easy ,just copy what they are doing but use double the bait. lol

This is our team on the first night in the local pub.Hello guys well i,m back. I have to say i really enjoyed mself and many

this is on the day of the compo i was on the Lady Godiva. 160 anglers took part on 20 boats so there was 8 on each boat.

On the way out i took a picture of another boat steaming out.

We went past Portland point and out to sea. If you can see the rock in the background some guys were fishing of there. The rock looks like it fell off backwards to make a bridge onto the outcrop.

The competition rules were different to the usual heaviest fish etc.
We were basicaly judged on a species catch. There was about 20 fish ranging from mackeral to Trigger fish. The skipper marked up the scores which incresed with the rarity of the fish.
I caught 3 Pouting on one drop which went something like ten points for the first one then 1 point per fish the next nine. Ten fish of any species was the maximum you could score on. This tested your angling skills.

I was given a tip how to catch Garfish the night before the compo. I used a float with some small hooks and mackeral.I caught one and this pushed up my score. There was only one other on the boat.

Bill one of our four man team caught this cracking Black Bream. It was huge. Under the rules though he scored the same as me when i caught a tiddler Black Bream.

To cap the few days fishing i won this in the raffle along with a Mustad rucksack.
