What book is your Fishing Bible?

Hi All, thanks to Pottsy for replying to my introduction message it reminded me of a fishing bible I had as a boy fishing in Wales.
My bible was a book I found by Clive Gammon called "Angling Guide to Wales". The front cover was of him holding a shore caught tope. I actually caught a smaller one from the same stretch of beach - whitford bay on the mouth of the Loughor estuary.
It gave tips on fishing with maps and bait availability at marks and a species breakdown. And it is still quite relevant today, although the catches have reduced considerably.

But that begs the question of what was, or is still, your fishing bible. With internet now I would also include forums like this brilliant one - NESA in my new choice of Bible ...

And as Pottsy has kindly informed me -I should get The Codling Crouch by David Storey.

Anyone else with a favourite fishing Bible?

I have an inspiring fishing bible... well... DVD that is.

It a series called 'A Passion for Angling' and its one of my most favourite shows. It was filmed some time ago but it shows you the respect that these two anglers show for fish and fishing.

I believe these two old anglers were Chris Yates and Bob James, and the camera man, Hugh Miles, who filmed that unfortunate (but very funny to watch) accident when Bob hooked a 20lb+ carp up a a tree. Bob managed to get down the tree and fall to the water on his feet, but Chris fell out of it and made a terrific splash and brought down half the tree with him, absoulutey brilliant!!:D:D:D

Hi Andy I have seen some episodes of A Passion for Angling, it is a fantastic series, they were showing it on Sky (don't know if they still are).
The black Labrador dogs were well trained too... best landing net I have ever witnessed.
And I agree the respect not just for fishing but for their environment is shown throughout, and it is a joy to watch, as it communicates that fishing is not just about catching fish. A feel good programme that inspires.

It certainly does inspire, ispecially when you see Chris with His young son catching small carp from a village pond using no more than a flake of bread, a bit line, a small hook and a STICK!!

Just goes to show we dont need all this gear to catch fish thesedays, and back then there methods work to perfection, and they probably still would today...

Except one time when they went fly fishing for salmon and ended up cathing trees all day!!:D

Reminds me of the time I took my son to Rosebery reservoir - catching little perch on float tackle - but one came in and it was in half - Pike!! So having taught my son to catch perch - I then taught him how to pennel rig a perch it for Pike ...
He went from Novice to skilled angler in 2 days ... advice and teaching is a very important.
The pic of my son with his first pike is here halfway down the page..

I would imagine there are bigger pike -and my son is now hooked on fishing - he enjoyed fishing - but he has patience and I think one of the important aspects that can't be taught is patience and to relax. I also took my older son that day and he gave up and went on his Nintendo DS
And our fishing Association has a real problem attracting young anglers, which I think is a lack of the "quick fix" , especially when Fly fishing on a river with none or very few coarse fish.

Fishing Bibles are an important resource in teaching our up and coming anglers about fishing and conservation, but more importantly it teaches them how to prepare and arrive at the venue set up for an enjoyable days fishing.

Thanks I didn't think about that - you are right !! - I always check the tide and moon state before fishing, is it a spring or neap tide? Weather conditions. Brilliant

Thank you John/r and cod cod cod.
